Quitting his job and doing what he likes isn’t far from what Bill Watterson did; first leaving his ad-agency job to have more time to practice drawing—leading to creating C&H; and then leaving cartooning for more creative pursuits. But I don’t get the impression that he did any of it on his mother’s dime.
There was a girl on a radio show yesterday who thought her boyfriend was cheating on her, so she went into his apartment while he was gone and glued together a bunch of things in his kitchen and unplugged his refrigerator. She found out later that he didn’t cheat on her. He had chef-grade pans and other kitchen tools, so now he claims she owes him $5K. Her response? She’s not answering his phone calls or texts, and she wants to go ask Daddy for the money. Uggghhhhh!!! You created this mess by being a mess, now be an adult and fix it! (She’s 25.)
What would make this strip really funny is if the ad was the old Marines recruiting one, where the guy is climbing the rockface, and morphs into a graduated Marine Corps officer!
Watterson’s reruns have very interesting timing…it was just last night that I helped host the Reel Rock tour (http://reelrocktour.com/) – a festival for these sorts of films.
I always am facinated by celebrity endorsements. An actor knows how to act, a sports figure knows how to play sports, so this makes them qualified in politics or medicine?
@LX013,“Maybe he thinks Jesus is the Rock of his salvation and he will not fall.”You have said it!“He hideth my soul in the cleft of the Rock…”“And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon the house (man); and it (he) didn’t fall, for it (he) was founded upon a rock.” Mt. 7:25
Oh, okay. It’s just that there’s so many different types of athletic shoes for every conceivable purpose that are sold to the general public . . . if you know what I mean.

Hobbes can’t be a figment of Calvin’s imagination. No part of Calvin is as smart as Hobbes.
