Ray: Home? Sir, you can't send me home! Medic: Ray, you've had a lot of neurotrauma. You should've been sent home a long time ago. Ray: But I don't do well at home, sir-- this is my home! Medic: Kandahar's your home? Ray: No, war. War's my home. War is simple. I know what to do. War makes complete sense to me. Medic: And your real home? Ray: Sir, my real home is AT&T bills and couples counseling. Medic: Mine, too. But isn't that what we're fighting for?

This is how the US government chews up its soldiers by sending them to unworthy conflicts, and then spits them out after the integrity, loyalty and sanity has been sucked out of them. I had too many friends and family members destroyed and corrupted by the war in Vietnam, and now it’s happening all over again to another generation, but in 21st century ways. Will we never learn?

“It is well that war is so terrible or we should grow too fond of it.” — Robert E. Lee, at the battle of Fredericksburg, 1862. “I’ve been where you are now and I know just how you feel. It’s entirely natural that there should beat in the breast of every one of you a hope and desire that some day you can use the skill you have acquired here.Suppress it! You don’t know the horrible aspects of war. I’ve been through two wars and I know. I’ve seen cities and homes in ashes. I’ve seen thousands of men lying on the ground, their dead faces looking up at the skies. I tell you, war is Hell!” — W. T. Sherman, addressing military academy graduates, 1879.

We are supposed to fight for our Constitution, when our nation is in danger – but does this crop of enemies put either in danger? No.
Instead we are fighting for ‘our way of life’…which is AT&T bills and couples counseling.
We need to learn to save war, and the human costs of war, for the real threats.

Some men do it to impress the babes. Some do it to protect the babes and babies. Some do it as a pretense for stealing and rape. Some do it to not let their comrads down. Some do it for a paycheck. Some do it because it is all they know..Sometimes the only alternative to war is dying at the hands of bad people.Regardless, it is Hell.

While I do not agree with the way the end was pursued, please do not forget that it was a foreign power that attacked U.S. troops in June 1950.

Yes, much better if South Korea had gotten to enjoy being part of the concentration camp that is the north, for the last sixty years. My favorite part is where, if someone is accused of being against the regime, they put three generations of the family in work camps for life.
