Won’t Tracy be hailed as a hero by many if it’s revealed how much money he’s saved the penal system? (Compare Judge Dredd, whose statistics are well over a billion.)
The operative word being "criminals"*, Wendy, not “innocent bystanders”.
*And by “criminals”, we don’t mean the odd street urchin and people nicking food to feed their families a la Javert. No, we mean a laundry list of murderous bootleggers, extortionists, the odd maniac, armed robbers, made men, contract killers, etc., who more often than not put him or innocent people in some kind of death trap or torture device.
The show was meant to restore the public’s confidence in the police service, according to what the mayor said, so Wendy Wichel would certainly not have helped with that goal. Anyway, not that we got Wendy out of the way (though I don’t know for how long), we can get back to whatever scheme Abner Kadaver is cooking up.
You tell them Wendy the Witch! Tracy even killed my all time favorite villain, Flattop! Then again, we now have Flattop’s angry, hot widow out for revenge! Chester Gould couldn’t have written it better.
Well, I, for one, am disappointed that less-than-Dave-Thomas’ Wendy didn’t make it on the air. Not that I hate Tracy or the cops, but it would have been an interesting way for, say, Jim Doherty and others on the creative team to provide counterpoint for her vitriol..It could well have been a good dovetail for the adventures of Li’l Abner, as well!.This may sound odd, but more often than not, these days I find myself agreeing with Still Da Man!
You know, in a way, Li’l Abner may have “jumped the shark” in this arc. (Oh, no! That rhymes!).Not only has he ignored Melies’ hit list – other than some throw-away character known only as Shortcake, but going after Tracy means drawing attention to himself – even if he is supposedly “dead”!.I’ve seen some write that Li’l Abner is one of the best new bad guys, but he stands a really good chance of losing that title – especially since he is going after Tracy and, if for no other reason than the namesake of the strip, he will fail!.Unless this arc is supposed to culminate in the actual death of Li’l Abner..Not sure what else to do with a washed-up has-been assassin! (Oh, no! Another rhyme!)
It makes me wonder why they hired her. (She recently returned from another city, didn’t she?) The producer isn’t giving her any respect (not that she deserves any).
Is it just me or does anyone else find it interesting that Wendy Wichel seems to find someone who is killing criminals a “menace”? Something seriously wrong with this woman……perhaps she’ll tie-in with Mrs Flattop rather than become a tool of Kadaver.
Heck ! Not wishing Tracy well there . . . and in the heat of the moment nearly *’*biting*’* off a finger ! (?) That “Grrrr…” seemed like a give away ?
Sort of – EXTREME ! Perhaps Wendy (the Witch ?) in panel 2, is churning inside with an undertone - - a ‘wish’ that Detective Tracy who she sees as ‘living’ by the ‘SWORD’, should die soon by the ‘Sword’ also ??
‘Staying Alive -* has always been a major problem for our Hero, more so now, with a new *’contract’* on his *’*head*’ -* and a killer who’s *’*ego*’* (once denied) seeks again to have it - burnished.
Not too surprising then, that a ‘timely’ number – by the Gee Bees and enhanced further by some Rita Hayworth (bullet avoidance?) *’*sway dancing*’* (shades of the Matrix?) in a video, has come to hand. It’s a *"*remake*"* of her 40’s timing linked to that 70’s hit tune - – “Staying Alive” !
While it won’t emulate the story, but it certainly comes up with a desirable *’*outcome*’* – - a PLEASING one ! Somehow, it seemed appropriate for Dick Tracy - merging the past with the present !
Tim, stilldamatt has been out of sorts since he shook the auto-wind watch to pieces. Gotta find him a new one before he drives the other “patients” crazy. Med time in a half hour!

So, Wendy “the Witch” Wichel is spitting mad?! I’m sure she’ll find some way to try for revenge; I hope she fails. Failure looks good on her.
