Actually, “victuals” is pronounced “vittles.” And now “vittles” has become its own word.

Actually, “victuals” is pronounced “vittles”, just like on the old “Beverly Hillbillies” TV show. Still, very cute.

If victuals are pronounced “vittles”, why aren’t rituals pronounce as “rittles”?

Also, in England “Bethlehem” was ‘corrupted/shortened’ to “Bedlam,” so “vittles” could be “victuals” after being similarly ‘corrupted/shortened.’

I still don’t know what a “victual” is.

This makes sense as written, but not spoken, since “rituals” and “victuals” don’t actually rhyme. “Victuals” is properly pronounced “vittles”. Don’t ask me why.
