Homer the Reluctant Soul continues... Homer: Beneath the welcoming image of the inn was a sinister operation... Bert: Oh, dear. ...An underground slave trade. A brutal ring of thugs would kidnap unsuspecting travelers, then sell them on the black market to avoid paying taxes to the Roman Empire. Being young, traveling alone and weak from hunger made me their perfect prey. Well...almost perfect... Woman: Yeesh...that's the best you could find? Signora Spietato was the ruthless innkeeper who led the gang of cutthroats... Man: Sorry, Signora, but this is all I've seen since Vesuvius blew up. Woman: *sigh* It also took all of our best clients. Woman: We can't afford to keep him here... Homer: Since it was all just business to them, I figured what could be more cost-effective than just letting me go? Woman: ...So feed him to the pigs. Bert: In corporate terminology, that's called a layoff notice. Homer: Oh, that sounds so much better.

Gotta admit I like munchin’ on fried pork rinds, so I suppose turnabout is fair play… sort of…

This is how you Manage your Human Resources… you don’t have to feel that this is a person (as in Personnel) it (the male or female) is just a thing that we can throw away when it is convenient. *“Thanks for your service and labor and extra effort but we don’t need you any more so go away and starve with your family or whatever.”

No, he was a shepherd. No need to be sheepish about your mistake, though; it’s a long, drawn-out story told somewhat haltingly, and if one forgets a detail now and then, one can be forgiven.

I read this and certain other strips because they are engaging and clever. “Funny” is optional.

It appears that Corporate America’s opinion of their employees hasn’t changed in the last few thousand years. And here I thought that it was only in the last 30 years that a hard-working, loyal employee came to be reduced to a line item on their P/L statements, firmly placed in the expense column, which translates to expendable.

I thought working at WallyWorld was a retirement plan.

I think corporate execs would prefer feeding us to pigs rather than letting us go; the former doesn’t require a severance package.

I think the Homer storyline is intriguing. Goes into depth, is fraught, and stuff.

This woman is downright ugly. She reminds me of my 6th grade teacher who was a worthless piece of garbage.

@ asharah: Not quite. Belle Gunness apparently buried some of her victims in her pig-sty after putting them in large shipping trunks.

We’ve all been fed to the pigs — and yes, working for WalMart IS the retirement plan. It’s the entry level, family support, and retirement plan all rolled into one — AND you can collect food stamps all the while.
