I am sorry to hear that. Our pets (mostly cats and dogs) are more than property or animals, but companions and family members.
I found this somewhere, apologies if you are not Protestant:Sometimes we look beyond, beyond so many things.Perhaps the confines of a room, beyong our sufferings. With eyes of faith, we look beyond the now, with all its fear;We know a God who is all-wise will one day make things clear. And so we look beyond ourselves to what the Lord can do.With Him all things are possible, in time he’ll bring us through. But until then, we must go on and pray for strength to cope,Our hearts must never lose its song, or ever cease to hope. With gaze that’s set beyond the clouds, we’ll keep on pressing on;So thankful that through eyes of faith we’ll see a brighter dawn.Though sometimes we don’t know why God does things,We must accept that he knows what He’s doing and that we fit into his plan.—written by Arnold Howard
Today’s Calvin and Hobbes is from April 1989, but this past week’s strips have been from June 1990. We are reading the strips that were rerun during Bill Watterson’s second sabbatical, in 1994. Since favorite strips were chosen for the sabbatical reruns, the Sundays were often out of sync with the weekdays.
My condolences. My oldest “baby” is home with me dying of an inoperable tumor in his chest. Four weeks ago he seemed destined for euthanasia the next morning—I am blessed to say he is being treated at home and his pain is well managed right now. I was given extra time to say goodbye. May God grant you some more time, and the grace to say goodbye when the time comes.
my family just started its third generation with the passing on of “Brutus,” a nondescript almost-white from washing, terrycloth, stuffed dog, so squeezed in the middle from being hugged and carried there that adding more stuffing doesn’t help anymore, and whose oft-replaced button eyes have been replaced by embroidery due to the thinness of the material. It’s nice being a great-aunt. I think I’ll print this out for my niece and her husband.
I never even had heard of night terrors as a kid, but now that I’m older and don’t always sleep through the night sometimes when I wake up the things I was dealing just fine with during the day become absolute monsters, overwhelming, incapable of resolution. I felt better when I (not getting preachy here, but I do read the Bible) read in Psalms the ancient Israelite King David talking about waking in the middle of the night with, basically, night terrors and how prayer comforted him. I then understood what was going on and felt much better. ‘Specially since I hate disturbing our dogs at night! ;-) (And yes, I do use prayer sometimes, too! Just sayin’…)
If you’re comfortable being in bed with a Tiger, Bengal or otherwise, you shouldn’t have anything to fear. You should be able to fall asleep should be quite easily.
Peanuts 511 welcome to one of my life time favorite comics. Remember those day dreams when school just went on and on and the clock wouldn’t move. Calvin takes care of that problem with some pretty wild day dreams…
