Gene: Nobody was criticizing you! Mary Lou: Oh, yes you were! I'm the mother! I'm the woman! I'm supposed to do it all! Mary Lou: If it's difficult balancing work and home, tough! It's all my fault! Pop: We were talking about the way things are! Pop: The hospitality trade is demanding! It can be very difficult for young families! Mary Lou: Are we just now getting around to finding that out?

No matter how much we think society has changed, she is right; few men take as much responsibility both at work and at home as the working mom. Note: working dad is not a commonly used term. Sheâs justifiably tired and no doubt needs a break before she breaks down.
metagalaxy1970 about 11 years ago
Why is it that when a woman is in a bad mood, itâs âsheâs pregnantâ or âsheâs PMSingâ? Ever thought that itâs okay for a woman to have a bad day? After all, a man can have a bad day, why not a woman?
And Flossie is right, you never hear the term âworking dadâ. Itâs always âworking momâ. Even if the woman isnât working outside the home, believe it or not guys, SHE IS WORKING. Especially if there are small children around. Cooking, cleaning, grocery, errands, taking care of sick kids, helping with homework, laundry, etc. The list and work is always on going.

No, MLâs point is valid and shouldnât be blamed on the state of her plumbing. And touchĂ©, ML.

You wanted it all and you got it. Now deal with it (without the attitude, please).

âMary Lou, I thought you would have already noticed and accepted the situation. Youâre always telling me to not tell you the things you already know. I canât tell you donât know until you complain.NONETHELESS, I WAS WRONG AND YOU ARE RIGHT. PLEASE FORGIVE MEâ
David Huie Green LikeNobody'sEverSeen about 11 years ago
âShe is putting that on herself, nobody else is.â-True. The heaviest burdens are those we give ourselves.
jadoo823 about 11 years ago
âŠare you now saying that she is âincontrolablyâ rude? So, if she feels that they are criticizing her, standing up for herself is âincontrolablyâ rude? Being a doormat is preferable? It is Mary Louâs child. Her father is referring to his grandchild as a âpoor kidâ and Gene is saying Meg hardly knows where her home is, which is an outrageous exaggerationâŠthey can go all wide-eyed and innocent, but it sounds like criticism to me (and no, I never had any kids, so iâm not projecting here â i am trying to be objective)âŠ

davemchine, I think youâre on to something thereâŠ.
Varnes about 11 years ago
davemchine, I think youâre on to something thereâŠ.How much do you want to bet he pays for both of them to go to school? And I bet he sends her to business school, too⊠I think Gus is smart enough to know that a modern business, even a restaurant/resort, needs somebody running it who has a handle on what it all meansâŠtaxes, social security, on line reservations,âŠsocial psychology, organizational an interpersonal relations, training techniquesâŠBest practices..Anybody who thinks you canât learn more about what you already know well, is just a silly personâŠ.And I think all the adults realize that the kids have proven themselves to be hard and dependable workersâŠ.Give âem a break. The money wonât be wasted on these tooâŠSend them off to schoolâŠ

" But a father would have been better."-And itâs obvious either his absence or the presence of his genes did much damage.Taking that into consideration, youâve done relatively well.
David Huie Green LikeNobody'sEverSeen about 11 years ago
âThe problem was that men didnât step up to shoulder the load at home. So it was male chauvinism still at work.â.Or perhaps, the problem is people outside the home deciding how the people inside the home are supposed to be living their lives. That happens a lot.It is obvious Mary Lou is worried about what others think even when they arenât thinking it.-Iâve seen plenty of women who could not think of having men do what they decided was THEIR domain. They treated every effort to help shoulder the load as an implied insult.

Thanks for making us think, Jimmy Johnson. Apparently this pushed a few buttons. Unfortunately, the commentary is getting a little heated and I donât think anyone has changed his/her mind. Maybe in another 300 yearsâŠ

Againâ maybe itâs time for them to think of finding other ways of supporting themselves?âŠ
