I heard an interview with a comedian once talking about how he knew millions of jokes. but only a few of them were funny. Just enough to fill a show. the key was being honest enough with yourself to know which ones should just stay in your head. Sound advice.

I don’t think it’s so much as being immature, as it is just trying to get through without them discovering that their plans aren’t so… “planny”….– Toni probably would like some help, but hopes that they can go on a bit longer, and get through dinner without feeling like they are in “hot water”…

Robert Burns once wrote: “Flow gently, sweet Afton, among thy green braes, Flow gently, I’ll sing thee a song in thy praise. My Mary’s asleep by thy murmuring stream, Flow gently, sweet Afton, disturb not her dream.” Can just imagine the sound of a murmuring stream…wouldn’t that be a different place to have a small wedding? Toni would like that, I think…pure and simple. ’Nite all… ;)

“…Taking so long raises the question of whether the two consider their engagement to be an actual engagement to get married or whether they really want to marry.”^You’re right about that. Going that long, one would get that impression. And, certainly it would be the mindset from Frank and Nancy! But sad to say, there are those these days who are doing that very thing, having an engagement that makes the wedding seem long overdue, with the very same question looming, as you’ve just stated… – But I think that B&T really do want to. My take is that Toni has had a lot on her plate, and the analogy I used yesterday, maybe to her all this planning (after the way her life had been up to this point) is like a great big college paper… looming… huge… intimidating.– She’s had to be both the “brave leader” of her family, and the “nurturer”. She had parents who took a bit of time, she has Jonah for a brother, she has a handful-of-niece… then there was….Dirk. -After weathering all of that in managing those relationships, she probably is ready for someone to come along and provide her with stability (Brad). She probably has more anxiety about planning, than reservations about marriage….

Wow! – Well, yeah, he certainly has stated before that it’s the “jump the shark” phenomenon once they get hitched…. Some TV shows are notorious for doing the same thing.– And yeah, it certainly wouldn’t be “out of the realm” of possibility for a buildup to proceed like this. Especially the part of us all finding out just why they really hadn’t gotten too far along in their plans…. if that’s where he’s going, at least as far as this week…

I think the inability to write a married couple as interesting is the flaw of the writer, not a flaw of the couple. If the writer isn’t creative enough to make marriage interesting, that’s his fault, and he is to blame for it. I happen to know marriage is VERY interesting indeed. Sometimes in that ‘may you live in interesting times’ sort of way.

These people have made no wedding plans. That’s a good thing, actually. Their reluctance to make plans just shows that they really shouldn’t marry.

The main thing is that they have rock-solid plans to wed.Acting silly beforehand is fine as long as the commitment is serious. The zombie-bride part is interesting as long as she doesn’t eat Brad’s brains.

Once people decide to marry, any wait after that should just be related to scheduling. Any questions regarding joining should come before any proposals.“Will you marry me unless I change my mind before the wedding?” is just silly..I had a classmate who maintained she could date other fellows right up to the wedding ceremony. She wasn’t really committed and her string of husbands showed it..I consider the ceremony a public declaration of a private decision. But that’s just me.

Brad and Toni, put on your Levis and hit the road to Reno. You don’t even need a blood test there, just two witnesses who you could get off the street if you promise to buy them a bottle of wine.

My wife and I went to the county clerk and recorder’s office, paid $15 and had the kids sign the certificate of marriage as witnesses. Then I went across the hall to the DMV and registered the new bike. Did this just before the oldest shipped out to Iraq.

Well, Brad isn’t going to be trying out for “Jeopardy”, and he isn’t going to be offered a gig for putting his “kisser” on a magazine, but if his father is any indication, he should do just fine… – People like Nancy and Toni are rare gems, who see the “buried treasures”….. other people won’t always see it, but the wifey knows and she doesn’t need to advertise it, either- what she’s got, she likes to keep that treasure “safe and sound”…..
