Ratlum – just a note from a grammar policeperson – the word you want is LOSE, NOT LOOSE, Lose means that something is lost and can not be found, or, you had a friend and lost him/her. Loose means not tight – get it?
Sorry to add on (not too sorry, I guess) but allow me to observe that using words correctly is a reflection of the quality of the mind behind the words; the reasoning, the care taken in forming ideas, the desire to have what you say understood as you intended and not leaving it up to the random interpretation of the hearer. These days, correct spelling and punctuation are frosting on the cake but the same applies to them.
Yep, as Churchill said (paraphrased), “the British and the Americans are two peoples separated by a common language.” .If it’s a rainy day and our toolbox is in the basement, we don’t take the lift to fetch a spanner so we can go out under a brolly to lift the bonnet to fix our lorry, and most of us Yanks might not understand someone who does.
“A soft voice and gentle correction, when it’s asked for, is ever so much better.”
I’ll agree with that. I mean, in REAL LIFE a soft voice and gentle correction IS better. But this is just a comic strip, right? And every good comic strip needs a good antagonist.
Me, I’d make my antagonist an evil English teacher who smacks his students’ hands with a ruler when he catches them using improper grammar (or writing poems in class).
“What have we here, laddie? Mysterious scribblings? A secret code? Oh, poems, no less! Poems, everybody! The laddie reckons himself a poet!”
Since looking is a linking verb in this instance using the adjective good would be correct to describe the condition of the person. Looking well would be a comment on how the person is performing the act of looking.
LesseeTheir should orta be thereis shoulda beed (intentional d) areerrers shud beee spelt errorsSo within the sentence, me counts three errors. This leaves us with a couple of philosophical questions:Is a false statement an error? Is a lie an error? The truth is that intentional misrepresentation is NOT an error, so we are stuck with three. But just for the fun of it, let us assume intentional falsehood is an error and we are up to four, right? Not necessasarily. The sentense misidentifies an error within itself, but is the error internal to the sentence or external to the sentence?
The answer to THAT question depends on your philosophy and is definately external to the sentence, so no new errors are identified.QED
“A gross insult to the horrible things done by Nazis.”?.We are supposed to be respectful to the things done by Nazis? Why should we respect Nazis and their accomplishments?THINK! MAN! THINK!
“Good” is correct. “Are looking” is a linking verb (with a gerund); it refers back to the subject (always a noun). “Well” is an adverb. Adverbs never modify nouns. “Good” is an adjective, describing the subject.Lesson done.

That’s grammar POLICE, Nazi is not a fit or proper term for use in a comic cartoon. (brought to you by the grammar police)

“When I look back at all the crap I learned in high school, it’s a wonder I can think at all…” Kodachrome by Paul Simon.
But correct grammar usage does lend to one’s credibility. And it’s well that lawyers need to know it.

You go, Wiz — protect the integrity of the English language from those who would torture it on a daily basis. Grammar Nazis forever!
