Wow! Even the âteacherâs petsâ arenât going for the âtreatsâ!⊠- Ten minutes of âpost high schoolâ, and theyâll be âwishingâ they werenât trying to âgo for a walkâ so fastâŠ.

I really donât see Delta or Bernice sloughing off like their bottom graded classmates.Theyâve probably already finished the assignments and are double-checking their spelling, syntax, and sources.

If Knute sleeps through all of his classes, and Tiffany continues to primp herself in the mirror, and everyone else continues to do what they want to do, and to heck with Boring(!) teachers, what happens is a sad sort of commentary in a way. But I think Greg is just continuing his charactersâ personality traits drawn during the past 29 years which he has condensed into one panel⊠;)

Seniors donât take finals? Will Luann just listen to her iPod in all her classes? Oh right, sheâs been doing that all year. Never mind.
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
âIâd have them write an essay on why they do what they doâŠâ ^That would make for a good essay! â Funny thing is, they probably donât even know, except for that little voice in their app that tells them when to do it. â But after high school, they probably will start to know. Some will hold a press conference to explain why, some of them will do it while laying on a couch, some of them- wait⊠suddenly Iâm reminded of a Eurythmics songâŠ..
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
âEvans is really hammering in the âFogarty is a terrible teacherâ message this week.â ^Or heâs pointing out the âlandscapeâ of todayâs teenâŠ..

Yeah, and years from now, when they have kids or work in careers where they have to deal with young people, theyâll be the ones complaining that theyâre getting no respect from them and that theyâre just little punks who donât respect anyone. Thatâll be karma biting them in the butt.
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
No, more like these . Too bad someone yanked the Eurythmics one, thoughâŠ. probably some suits âwithout a sense of humorââŠ. â And the ones that yanked the âSeparate WaysâŠâ by Journey one probably donât, either. - Of course, some of them probably do have one, as shown hereâŠ.

Iâd rather listen to the âAir Supplyâ versionâŠ. -Or the Celine Dion version- okay, wait⊠thatâŠnoâŠ.

From Socrates:âOur youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.â
I wanted to quote something from Pliny the Elder that was also about youth, which I thought was very timely, but I couldnât find it.

Luann seems to be under the impression that she never has to learn anything after leaving High School. Is she ever in for a shock.
TORAD_07 almost 11 years ago
HmmmmâŠ. Yeah, Iâm not sure where Greg is going with this âFogartyâ arc⊠unless itâs a setup for Lu and Fogarty meeting again at Pitts CC. Weâll see. Maybe he is trying to make a statement on the state of education in this country. SadâŠ. There was no such thing as âsenioritisâ at my school. They worked our a$$es off to the very end. Most of us were taking AP exams, or doing what we could if we were âwait listedâ at a school we wanted to go to. And, in true college prep style, we had a âfinals weekâ with which to deal as well.
One of the teachers there was notorious for saving huge exams for the âday beforeâ a holiday period would begin so that we wouldnât slack off beforehand. We were always on our toes.

I smell a setup: Luann returning to teach at the HS in four, five yearsâŠ
Manga Enthusiast almost 11 years ago
It seems to me that Luannâs comic character has shown a lot of growth. Sheâs having a conversation with her teacher, who has spent his years giving the same assignments over and over, and heâs actually listening. Thereâs been a lot of âteacher flicks,â which show teachers/professors who find ways to inspire at least some of their students from âBlackboard Jungleâ to âDead Poetsâ and on to âFreedom Writers.â Iâve seen too many assignments of lazy English instructors who assign the same themes every semester. Movie scenarios may be overly idealistic, but an inspiring class curriculum does reach some of the students, who want to improve.

we had a senior trip at the end of the year, the prom (which was last week) and graduation practice, last minute ordering of Graduation Invitations, caps and gowns, year book pictures, oh, and of course, final exams.

On the last day of high school for us midterm graduates, our civics gave us our âlast taste of 7upâ right after telling us that some of us werenât far from parenthood. That was in 1972 when many of us married young. So that is what I suggest he does. It was like putting a stamp on us that said, âChildhood Completedâ.

âWhats the point of any essay?â*Lu, writing your thoughts (especially thoughts about yourself) is FUNâ you and Tiff should especially enjoy this. But here your teacher is offering you a wise choiceâ review and analyze your formative last four years, or plan your course of action (beginning this summer) that will set you on our way for the next ten years.*Put some thought into it class. This is a worthwhile projectâ even though your teacher isnât going to read the essays.*Now excuse me while I go write more on my weekly newsletter I send to my (willing) colleagues.

âHow is a bunch of disrespectful teens in school supposed to be funny? "*RB â Iâve got to agree with you there! (Except when I remember the last week of school.) See my note above about this being a meaningful opportunity.
*Now middle-aged, looking back, if I regret anything itâs not that I messed up sometimes but that like these students, at times I wasted an opportunity.

I meant the post mostly in jest. Those two are usually depicted as the go-getters of the group, I donât really buy their being shown as slothful in this scene except that Evans needed to fill the panel and continue with his âlazy studentsâ theme.Sometimes I canât believe that he supposedly shows these strips to his wife and daughter for their input.
Alan Steenhouwer almost 11 years ago
I just realized, heâs probably going to get a job at the college Luann is going to go to.

I canât believe Miss âShares Her Thoughts In A Diaryâ Luann balks at this assignment.Itâs the perfect self-analysis moment.P.S. Whoâs with me in writing to GoComics that they will boycott any ad that âpops upâ in the left side of the site window and pushes what youâre trying to read to the right?

Crystal has been missing for a long time.!Is there some reason??Is she âdoing an Elwoodâ and fading out of the story with no explanation? Lots is unsaid about her now.!Did she go to the prom??Is she in this class??What is she doing after graduating?
melmarsh9v almost 11 years ago
And now, the end is nearâ only so many/few days to Graduation! Should we hope something will happen? This reader had grand expectations of what could have occurred on Prom Night, only to see about three weeks worth of panels where very little actually happened. This is mild stuffâŠ
melmarsh9v almost 11 years ago
A few weeks ago, I posted a scenario where the non-college bounds would work at a bar. Crystal as bartender- cocktail waitress, Knute as the janitor (âswamperâ), and Ox as the bouncer, who plays some semi-pro football.

âEvans is really hammering in the âFogarty is a terrible teacherâ message this week.â ^Or heâs pointing out the âlandscapeâ of todayâs teenâŠ..-That may be the way teens would like to be, but when I sit through the parent orientations at my daughterâs high school, the first thing each teacher says is how they confiscate cell phones if they see the kids using them.-If I were a HS teacher I would pass out two copies of a brochure to each student in the class. It would outline the course material, grading criteria, reading/math assignments, etc. It would also list standards of conduct expected of each student and the repercussions to be expected if they behaved otherwise. Also, and I would emphasize this most strongly, would be to demand absolute respect for substitutes under threat of severe consequences upon my return (having been a sub myself). Finally I would have the student AND A PARENT sign each copy. One would be theirs to keep; the other I would keep and refer to if necessary. Itâs called a binding contract.
Reddyan almost 11 years ago
I substitute teach. And this is EXACTLY what the students want to do instead of the assignment the regular teacher has left for them. But they have learned with me, itâs either the assignment, or detention later. I have become LEGENDARY in my school system! ;-)

OR Mouse â FYI, today I bought 1) bananas, which are ripening quickly in a brown paper bag in my window, and 2) a new box of raisins. If the bananas ripen in time, on Monday Iâll critque your recipe (my version of it, at least.)*Personal question: Does OR stand for the great state of Oregon or for Operating Room. If the latter, am I required to advise JCAHO to check for rodents?

Quoting @Brdshtt:
I remember this getting a lot of airplay in the late 90âs. It was read by Baz Luhrmann and was directed to the graduating students of that year.
The tune and the tile, are based on this song, featured in his move, âWilliam Shakespearâs Romeo & Juliet..â Itâs the song that was played as the Friar is marrying Romeo (Leo DiCaprio) and Juliet (Claire Danes). The boy who sings it in this video (Quindon Tarver) also sang it in the film (in which he has a cameo role). He also covered Princeâs âWhen Doves Cryâ in the film.

âThat may be the way teens would like to be, but when I sit through the parent orientations at my daughterâs high school, the first thing each teacher says is how they confiscate cell phones if they see the kids using them.â ^You can unplug the kids from the devices, but the kids are still âplugged inâ to them⊠â But I was more so specifically referring to how the kids of today are âautomaticallyâ against whatever comes their way from the teachers. Much like some kids will âautomaticallyâ hate whatever you put in front of them to eat, if in their minds, they have convinced themselves that they wonât like itâŠâŠ

Only ORMouseworks knows for sure, but itâs possible that OR is short for Orlando, the home of Walt Disney World.
