Is the ceremony being held outdoors or in the gym? And after this build-up last week, what on earth will it be that Bernice and Tiffany have up their sleeves? (Now that we know what they have underneath their robes!)
I know Iâve defended Ms. Phelps in past strips, but today, Iâd have to say that she is being TOO uptight here. I know theyâre supposed to line up for the ceremony, but come on! Graduates will take photos of themselves. Itâs graduation day! Itâs their day to make memories and see each other for one last time before they go their separate ways. Give it a rest for once, Phelps!
At my graduation ceremony 26 years ago (already!), we all wore light-blue caps and gowns since our school colors were light-blue and gold. I still have the tassel! Memorial Mustangs, class of â88! Whoo-hoo!
Iâm pretty sure the National Honor Society graduates in my graduating class wore NHS regalia on their gowns. This December, when I get my B.A. in English, Iâll be wearing regalia from Sigma Tau Delta (an English honor society) and the Golden Key Honor society AND a memory stole that all graduates at my university wear come graduation time. I should also be wearing cords to indicate that Iâll be graduating magna cum laude.
Heh heh! They may be repeating to themselves: âGrade is just a number!â⊠â Thereâs also the fact that some are called by last name order⊠but on some TV grad shows this becomes the âin jokeâ as the main characters seem to get called regardless of any ârealâ type of order. - But Greg has been more so one who goes for the âsimpleâ, âbasicâ, and not so much the âtiny detailâ. Just enough to send over the punch line. So he may have valued the âcomic momentâ here, over the details (which he has suggested that he has missed, at times)âŠ. so their gowns, etc. may not be telling the whole story, hereâŠIâm pretty sure that Delta and Rosaâs final grades are way higher than Luâs⊠and in turn hers must seem like NHS material compared to TiffsâŠ.
She has yet to turn the age. Sheâs one of those âfunny numbersâ that turn either way before, or right after (she was born in the fall), and the week of their little sleepover with cereal and Toy Story (about a couple of months back), she hadnât turned an age, yetâŠ
Rush to judgement?Tiffany isnât saying explicitly that she is going commando. She queries âundies?â Maybe itâs just the use of that word, rather than âunderpantsâ or âpantiesâ that she is questioning. On the other hand, if indeed she is telling us that she is bare-bottomed, Iâd be mischievously tempted to reply to Lauren M, âway too shortâ for what? (Just kidding.)
The most interesting part of this ceremony will be the end, when Mr. Fogarty breaks the Pitt HS track teamâs school record for the 100-year dash as he runs to his car and zips out of the parking lot forever.
I also wonder if (in her hands on panel 1), Delta couldnât decide on being âBadâ, or being a âGradâ.. maybe she just decided to âsplit the dfferenceâ!..
Okay, then how about a different one: âLuann Againn, But Still Not Againnâ⊠Or âLuann Almost Againn, But Not Quiteâ or âLuannâŠ. Itâs A Different One, I Tell You!â or maybe âLuann: Kind Of Again, Yet It Isnâtâ⊠â Or a rearrangement: âAgainn⊠With Luannâ â Or simply⊠âLuann⊠Is That You?â
Like clothing, thereâs a reason âsting operationsâ and âstrategic campaignsâ are better as clandestine: initiatives: â The less everybody knows about it, the better!
âAdults?â Some would Argue THAT Doesnât until They get Jobs, and HAVE to spend the REST of Their Lives, years paying back student loans and TaxesâŠ.,
Give Phelps a pass on this one.Sheâs doing her job and the kids are doing theirs..(Belinda Banana, congratulations on the Luann hair and nose, too bad she wound with the better brain. Such is life.)
Iâm sure most of us have a picture similar to frame one. Mine has three of my friends, two boys and a girl, plus our favorite teacher acting just as silly as we were.
I doubt that Bern would wear those âGradâ glasses and that Delta would write on her hands and Tiff would wear that slinky dress (even for her) just for the rehearsal. â I just had a couple of my nephews graduate and for one, their rehearsal was just having their class wear âall whiteâ as they had both a rehearsal and a special program prepared for themâŠ.
LOL! Youâre welcome! I told you that that sponsor would be scheduled for next week! I do believe that this is all for a two week grad arc⊠probably some comic moments from Knute and Crystal, Ox, Gunther, Quill, and maybe a bit of parents and Brad/Toni, and probably some Qull/Luann interplayâŠ..
Hasnât the pacing of this story been a bit strange? After the horrible âFogarty look-backâ strips, we had some perfectly ordinary âQuill and Luannâ strips and âLuann, Tiffany, and the kids stripsâ, then Bernice was named valedictorian and talked with Phipps last week, and now the big day has arrived. We didnât see anyone study for, or take, final exams, no one fretted about sending out graduation invitations, no one worried about gifts or parties, or anything. Just boom, weâre graduating. Considering that the planning for the prom went on for weeks (and then the actual event itself took exactly 2 strips), the actual culmination of all these years of high school in the strip seems to be treated as almost a throw-away event.-(deleted and re-posted to fix a typo)
Tiffâs dress/skirt is just right She looks great in panties or sans panties as the strip has shown in her bikini shots. All the guys like that whether they admit it or not!
I hope it has something to do with giving that bully what he deserves. He was shown a lot this week while Bernice was bring told she was the VD. I donât know how Tiffany would help with that thoughâŠâŠI could be comepletely wrong. âŠwishful thinking
Congrats to Banana, Reed, BS, and everyone else who is graduating or had a child graduate!*Party hearty for one dayâ then buckle down to accomplishing your life mission. Best of wishes to you!
âI think she meant for both words to be used together as a phrase, thatâs why we see both of them.â ^Ha ha! I was just joking on that one, and I knew she meant âBad Gradâ as in âmaking it out of HS and on a rollâ, but the reason I said it as I did, was because of the fact that she wrote one on one hand and the other on the other one⊠and people say she doesnât have any "celebratory depth, etc.! But also, mostly I said it because if you think about it, when would you ever use the word âbadâ and Delta, in the same sentence? (XD) <[Ha haâŠhoot and a half!!!!} â (Even though in this instance âBadâ means âGoodâ!)
Which shows that each school can do things pretty much however they want. As I suggested, itâs unlikely that Pitt H.S. is very much concerned about formalities and rituals. Itâs probably just head âem up and move âem out, at this schoolkid cattle drive.
Tiff is not saying âundiesâ because she is not wearing them. High school girls wear panties not undies. Undies are for grade schoolers. She is just making fun of Berniece and the others.
After skimming through recent posts, I havenât seen anyone who truly has a right to say, âCALLED IT!â with respect to the Tiff/Bernice mystery. Todayâs comic is perfectly timed with tomorrowâs, they are in synch. Now tomorrow you can have fun with some coloring inconsistency âtwixt todayâs strip and tomorrowâs. Nothing major, but I expect to hear the razzing.
If they werenât humans when they started the humanities, they wonât be when they leave. If they were humans when they started the real science courses, they still will be.
And this song was mistakenly played at Graduations in lots of places- really a song about life in a ânuclearâ worldâŠ. âThe Futureâs So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shadesâ by Timbuk 3!
(Mousetrap?) ^LOL! First, hopefully the outlook will be ârosyâ (heh, heh!)⊠And if the story makes the paper, for the pic, theyâll have her sayinâ âCheese!â
â15 rosebushes..â^LOL!!!! â The Rose family hedges their bets, by supporting a Bush for County ClerkâŠ. in tomorrowâs edition of âThe VineââŠ.. â âLocal resident encounters thorny situation- baffled, and stuck for answersâŠâ â âNew transplants from the Garden State- rake in a lot of green, after mowing down the competition⊠meet them, live on our show!âŠ.â -âRose bowls⊠and boy , is she good at it! And a striking woman, to boot! Meet Rose, and her sister Rhoda, the Dendrons- Tomorrow, live!â
Thanks for thinking of me, Brdshtt! See my note to IJBâŠdid get caught up in a few of my roses the other day! But, mostly getting over my stint in a Health and Jobs fair held at a local church. Took a Lot of work and coordination to get everything ready! ;)
