Aah, poor Gunther! If only youâd paid more attention then⊠â Quill wasnât there, but you were âŠ.You need to reflect on the past few monthsâŠâŠYou had the answers, but now youâre searching for questions, instead. And now, âseeds of doubtâ have been plantedâŠAnd now a little confidence is becoming a little lessâŠ..

Yes. Not having Gunther in future arcs would be like not having toothpaste for a toothbrushâŠor something like that! ;)

Rosa most certainly wants him to come with. ButâŠQuill doesnât know that. So the question remains valid.

Gunther already lost Rosa, so by calling her on the phone, he has nothing to lose.
The question is, does Gunther want to ask Rosa about her plans?

IJB (GoComics wouldnât let me link my reply!)âŠanyway, what I was trying to post is that I hope the relationship breakup is quick and not dragged out! Thereâs nothing worse in a relationship, I think, than to have it unravel at an agonizing pace. Sometimes it is better to cut it clean before it implodes and sends the broken shards of the doomed relationship all over the place within the soul⊠;)

Life doesnât always work with everyone being âbluntâ.. some things require tactâŠ. you can tell âPerson Xâ in one way, because their personality is âlike soâ. âPerson Yâ, not so much, because of their makeup (for instance, a person who âfreaks outâ or âstresses outâ easilyâŠ. sorta like Gunther!) â It happens all around us! We prefer our doctors to âgive it to us straightâ, because of the nature of such a situation. But when a person hints at wanting to get married, or feels the need to âsee other peopleâ, you sort of âfeel the waterâ and pop âlittle hintsâ here and there. If you see that there is a âfavorable reactionâ (such as in the desire to be married), you can then proceed furtherâŠ.

Iâve got a book about John Q. Adamsâ wife, Abigail, and her two sisters with whom she had a very close relationship. It is a biography, but mainly consists of letters that they sent to each other. Rosa wants Gunther to want to go to Peru with her, not just to feel pressured to go. She wants him to decide, not her making the decision for him.
THIS!
We just have to get him there. We donât need Qull mucking it up with questions that will throw him off his game. We need him focused.
GUNTH, âHABLA CON ELLA!â
Boophilus over 10 years ago
Even if Rosa in February wanted Gunther to join her, that doesnât mean she still feels that way in June. Or it may be exactly what she was too afraid to hope for all along. Thank goodness Quill is encouraging Gunther to talk to Rosa!-One of the reasons that Iâm just ânot feelingâ the Rosa and Gunther relationship is because I donât actually âgetâ what it is. They donât seem to have talk about things. Rosa seemed in satisfied with the physical aspect. They donât seem to like to do the same sort of things or have congruent life goals. They like each other obviously, which is all you need to start dating. I realize this is my personal interpretation of a work of fiction. Other interpretations are valid.-Iâm not saying Gunther shouldnât try to go to Peru for the summer. It doesnât seem too feasible (costs, red tape) but if determined and with a place to stay itâs doable. Gunther just better make sure Peru is really where he wants to be, with or without Rosa, before ditching the university plans (or delaying a year). A gap year can be great. You gotta do it for yourself, though, not for someone else. Iâm curious to see what is idea was â Peru for the summer? Or a year?

The actual Plan C, going by Luannâs list of plan, is to dangle herself out there like bait on a hook. She wants to see if Gunther takes the bait, that is, her, and goes off on the adventure. Itâs her idea of testing his manhood, more or less.
Meh~tdology, fka Pepelaputr over 10 years ago
Doesnât matter what Rosa thinks, Gunth. You havenât the funds or the Passport for this adventure.Move on.
Argy.Bargy2 over 10 years ago
For all those who seem convinced that, because Rosa didnât emphatically state to Gunther that she wasnât kidding about Peru, you need to consider the fact that Rosa has been raised in a family and culture that probably differs significantly from the âstandardâ US culture.-First point: her father is a diplomat, which means not only has Rosa lived in multiple places, but that she has always had to âadaptâ to whatever circumstances she found herself in.-Second point: although she was born a US citizen, like many women whose parents probably were foreign-born, she has been raised to be somewhat subservient to her parentsâ wishes. I had a cousin who married an American-born Korean woman, whose naturalized parents had raised her with rigid expectations that she would be an engineer or doctor, and would (of course) marry a boy with similar ethnic heritage. When she decided to become a nutritionist and marry a white man, her father disowned her.
Angelalex242 over 10 years ago
Actually, in the world of a comic strip, trivial things like passports and funds meet with handwavium. All practical matters are useless. The only thing that matters: Is Gunther man enough to run off with Rosa with no real warning, thus proving him spontaneous enough for her likingâŠor not?

I have a hunch that Gunther is not responding just to Quill but also to what he is hearing on the phone. Could it be that he is hearing a recording, a disappointing recording?
luckyluckyme over 10 years ago
Wow Quill, you are not helping at all (in australian accent _ Wasnât tyrin to, mate! )
Argy.Bargy2 over 10 years ago
-No, I wasnât suggesting that Rosaâs folks would disown her, but rather that she has a much heavier struggle within herself to assert herself than the average US kid. So she couldnât just casually tell Gunther that she was going to Peru (either instead of Yale or before Yale) until she had her uncleâs ok.-And she also would have a much more difficult time telling Gunther that she wasnât kidding about Peru, or the other options if she was raised not to raise a ruckus, but to âgo alongâ and be a peaceful, agreeable girlâŠ

I always had the utmost respect for my parents (until my old man developed a âwandering eyeâ â putting it nicely.
I could raise that bet easily :-) âŠ. but itâs times like this that I reaaaaaallly wish GoComics would implement âPrivate Mail.â Thereâs lots of things Iâd love to go into with some of you, but shouldnât on a public forum about comic stripsâŠ
Iâm not saying itâs as I described âeverywhereâŠâ more than likely only families with sufficient wealth to fight overâŠ. But Iâd think, as a diplomat, Rosaâs parents meet that criteria, sufficientlyâŠ. especially if theyâre talking about financing a Yale education for her.
Iâm happy that you became so self-sufficient so early in life. I wish I had⊠It might still not change anything in respect to my own parents, but it would make a bunch of things a lot easier, at this point.
Boophilus over 10 years ago
Parents donât have financial control over young adults. They have control over their OWN finances. If you want to be âMiss Independentâ, then donât expect to be able to be DEdepdent on Mummy and Daddyâs allowance. They have a right not to financially invest in endeavors they think are detrimental. Granted, they may be wrong about the value of the experience. Still, the price of freedom is responsibility.

The character, Gunther, is too young and too immature to make a decision to ditch his game plan. Knowing Gunther, its not raging hormones, so it must be that Rosa is his support system. She tells him what to do, just like his mother. Although Rosa is sexy, warm, and willing, that boy just isnât ready for prime time. Most guys would be all over her by this stage in their relationship.
TORAD_07 over 10 years ago
So far, with my son that just graduated, we have not had to pull that card. He has âpulled himself up by his own bootstrapsâ and knows we are here to help and guide him â not to engage in a âtest of wills,â if you may. I know not all parents and all kids are the same. Unfortunately, parenting just does not seem to be one of those âone size fits allâ things⊠:)
No, it does not. :(
Iâm also happy your son has the right attitude. Because itâs just going to get worse, i think, as competition for resources accelerates. Funny⊠I been reading stories about these âmega-$$$â celebs who started with nothing, want their kids to grow up with that ethic⊠hence, âno inheritance.â Sting was the most recent example thereof. That could also, however, be an âEstate/Inheritance Taxâ avoidance thing, butâŠ.
Iâm not sure Iâd go that far with my $$$ or my kids (assuming I had either)⊠;-) Iâd do whatever I could while theyâre trying to make their own living, and the rest Iâd save until after âIâm outta here.â Even in a âtough loveâ scenario, Iâd still leave the offending kid something⊠but with a warningâŠ. âThis is it⊠no more, since I wonât be here to give you moreâŠ. use it wiselyâŠâ But Iâd rather give it to them than give it to Uncle Sam. on the âdouble dipâŠâ :-(
