TJ: "Giblin Insurance? Yeah, I wanna file a claim"
Brad: "Toni, remember earlier I said we should meet for dinner at cafe TJ to help him out? Well, he doesn't need our help anymore"
Toni: "Really? Did his business suddenly boom?"
Brad: "Yup."
JayBluE over 10 years ago
Yeah, dinner at the truck is out of the question. The best they could do, now with it would be _Al Fresco_ ….

Actually, most of TJ’s menu won’t taste any worse for being a bit burnt.

TJ’s business is definitely…booming alright.

Is Brad looking sideways over at TJ? I think he’s starting to get suspicious.

Or another “escape clause”:

Yes, I re-thought that second post and “premium’s” is correct…its late and my “grammar mind” is on official vacation… ;)

I know TJ’s his friend(?), but if Brad suspects something he better say something or else he’ll get dragged down with him.

That black line at the bottom of your policy really isn’t a line; it’s a list of exceptions in a really small font.

Oregon, (where I am today). I say it is his premium payment, not that of The premium. I always try to rephrase things so as not to require a possessive of an object. So, rather than saying “the door’s latch was sticky” I’d try "the latch on the door was sticky, due to the owner’s neglect.
Agree?

If the insurance adjuster knows the guy who wanted the corn dog or the kid who wanted popcorn, heard TJ’s complaint about hating his business, he or she might call in ATF, and pursue arson charges.

Oregon Mouseworks, I am in Neskowin on the Oregon coast for a few days. When I said Oregon, I was shorthand referring to you. Usually I am in southern Arizona.

But Brad, could you at least help get a good lawyer? For TJ, I would recommend Saul Goodman, the criminal lawyer.
melmarsh9v over 10 years ago
You would think so— after all, Brad has known TJ for many years! Like I said the other day, Brad could be in a big dilemma if he starts getting suspicious of his old friend…
SactoSylvia over 10 years ago
Interesting turn of events! I still think TJ’s expression when the truck first went kabloooie was one of genuine surprise… which would mean that his delight now is not because he pulled something off, but because the accidental explosion provides an easy solution to what he was beginning to realize was a problem. In any event, I hope that’s the case!

Won’t be seeing much of TJ after he’s prosecuted for insurance fraud…..

Arson?
bagbalm over 10 years ago
Yes sir, yes, arson investigator please.
Sisyphos over 10 years ago
I think that the explosion was in fact an accident; but the question is, will the insurance adjuster see it that way? TJ’s glib, wise-cracking attitude could get him into trouble. And that trouble might even reach out to taint Brad’s reputation. And that might cause complications with Toni and the big wedding….
Mike Hannon over 10 years ago
Anyone notice Brad’s expression in the last panel. He looks like he suspects TJ of something.
tubgrape over 10 years ago
If TJ files this claim, his life is about to go “BOOM!” Also, had anyone been within 50 feet of that conflagration, it could turn really ugly. I think TJ will be in deep doo doo no matter…. Wait a minute! This is a comic strip! TJ will come out ok, but broke and out of luck. What say, Greg?
tubgrape over 10 years ago
Also…I don’t understand why people think Toni and Brad would be in any way influenced in their wedding plans over this. Explain this thinking, please. Greg had better let that wedding happen. It will give him a dozen new possibilities for his strip. If he doesn’t he will have a lot of angry fans. lol

I guess Toni must be off from firefighting duties today, or she would already be aware of T.J. booming business. Either that or she is aware of it, and she just made a terrible pun.
Trust me, it’s a terrible pun. Toni is off duty.
The Capt. would not allow Brad & Toni to work the same shift at the same station, for both HR and safety reasons.

In real life if someone commits insurance fraud by setting their business on fire, they can go to prison.

It’s not Brad’s fault TJ is acting suspicious.
thebigboot over 10 years ago
Unfortunately TJ’s actions are suspicious so there should be an investigation.
Willow Mt Lyon over 10 years ago
If it is arson and T.J. is convicted, he will become a life-long registered arsonist. It will follow him for the rest of his life.
locake over 10 years ago
I think it was an accident. TJ knows there are people in the area, the two males, but he is not looking back when he walks to the trash. If he knew it would explode he would make sure there were no people close to it. TJ may be shady but I don’t think he would take the chance of killing someone.
locake over 10 years ago
Brad is not in charge of the arson investigation. He doesn’t need to offer any opinions to anyone, just answer any question they ask him. If it was arson they should be able to determine that without any help from Brad.
locake over 10 years ago
I think TJ’s happy demeanor is because he knows they won’t find any evidence of arson and the fire was a lucky solution to his problem. If he did cause it he would act more surprised or upset, to divert suspicion from him.

Will Greg actually base the ending for this arc on how the readers vote? This should be fun!
Ron Dunn Premium Member over 10 years ago
Most fireman wear pagers and can hear all of the calls from every fire station. So Toni might not have one on her.

“Just like I did…. Written Commentary. I think that’s what they’re looking for.”*Torad – Thanks, I just added a note there too. But it sounds like SS had voting buttons with a tally of “15”. There’s an icon on the sidebar that says “Vote Here”, that first requires a person to download an app. Is that it?
SactoSylvia over 10 years ago
Go over to the ads to the right of the bonus strip, then mouse down a bit. You should see a panel that says “Vote here.” Mouse over that to get the vote options. I think that’s how it worked… I’m working from memory here.
SactoSylvia over 10 years ago
Or you can stay on this page… click on the panel with Knute (at the right of the screen) for the poll.
dblbaraje over 10 years ago
Based on the assumption that this TJ thing was actually an accident, the insurance company will probably find a way to reduce him claim with deductibles, etc, etc, etc. Just like people who can’t rent apartments due to their restricted dog breed list when it is not the dog causing the problem it is the way the owners take care of them. Total discrimination.
ACTIVIST1234 over 10 years ago
“Looks like it is 51approval and 27 fraud. Just went and did my civic duty.”*BS – thanks! guess my pop-up blocker has prevented me from doing MY civic duty! (if you can double vote, will someone please vote “approval” for me?)
TORAD_07 over 10 years ago
and if he’s right, then the “vote” is meaningless.
In the shorter term, I’d have to agree. I’d imagine TJ’s fate is already sealed, one way or another. But it (the poll) might prove interesting input for the future direction/development of other characters.
SactoSylvia over 10 years ago
“… and now we have one additional piece of info ..that Greg purposely drew some ambiguity into the arc as a cheap ploy for ratings. I for one say: “for shame Greg”!”
I wouldn’t call it a “cheap ploy” at all… real life is often ambiguous.
