What I will do this summer... Save Someone's Life!
Caulfield: Today's the day I save a life.
Frazz: I hope you return home to a worthy welcome.
Caulfield: No worries. Welcome home!
RODNEY ANIMAL SHELTER
My family has always only adopted from shelters, or rescued from abandonment. However, there is another way that one can choose to save a life. Consider registering as an organ donor. For information see: http://donatelife.net/
I miss my baby. He was rescued from a shelter. He was part Siamese and was a talker. Later in his life, he went deaf, but that’s no problem. He had been used to me signing for years. Even funnier was he learned to make a couple gestures that resembled sign language. He would put his paw to his mouth to sign FOOD. He would do a version of waving hello, because he was used to me signing HI! every time I saw him. He was a character. I loved all my shelter babies. I would never go anywhere else to find a feline or canine roommate.
Sixteen years ago, a coworker asked me to watch a kitten that her neighbor had found. I was only supposed to have him for a weekend. He’s snoozing in my bedroom corner right now. We also adopted a cat last year from the shelter. We had to leave him there while they checked my references. As we left, he was sitting by the glass door looking at me like, “Didn’t you feel the connection? I felt a connection. Why are you leaving me here? Was I too eager? Was I not clear in my desire to go home with you?” When I finally did get to take him home, he would wander around the house and stop by to jump in my lap and thank me for getting him out of the shelter. And he’s adopted the older cat and treats him like he’s a kitten that needs caring for.

Great ending — my two rescue cats Fido and O’Malley thank you as well. (yes, a cat named Fido. Thank you Data)

A dog would have been better, mostly because I’m horribly allergic to cats.

Rescuing one cat will not change the world. But it will change the world for one cat.
