Speaking of “Rawhide”, it has just restarted from the beginning again on “MeTV”, and I find that the most notable difference from the most common “format” of the show is how different the character “Mushy” is. He’s not the “Dumb-as-a-post” “Can’t-do-anything-right” “Doesn’t-even-know-how-to-properly-use-a-gun” Mushy, but is basically another Drover. They all go into a town, hoo-rahing, shooting their guns off, and so is he. Rowdy has said something to Gil Favor that the guys don’t like, and Mushy is lining up to fist-fight him, same as the others…
Clint Eastwood got his big break starring in ‘A Fistful of Dollars’ in a very bizarre and tragic manner. Eric Fleming played the lead role as trail boss Gil Favor from 1959 to 1965 in the TV series ‘Rawhide’. During hiatus from the show in 1965, he took a role in the movie ‘High Jungle’. In re-shooting a scene in which his character saves a woman from drowning, he drowned. As a result, the following year, Clint Eastwood assumed the starring role of Rawhide. However, he flopped in that role, and the show was canceled. Sergio Leone then offered him the role of the man with no name which was at the time, a B-grade western. That and its sequel ‘For A Few Dollars More’ had only moderate box office success. But his breakout role came in the third movie in that franchise, ‘The Good, The Bad and The Ugly’ which was a huge worldwide hit that catapulted Clint to the A-list. Would he have achieved that were it not for Eric Fleming’s untimely death? Food for thought.

If you think Matt Dillon was a character on Gunsmoke and not an ’80’s teen heartrobe, you’re old.

My wife and I are in our mid-sixties. She often says, “It’s weird being tha same age as old people.” Cause we don’t feel old.
