Iâve never seen Shannon smile so wide, before, she really IS happier with B&T than with her worthless Daddy.ps, that mall has been called Squander Mall, pretty much since the beginning of the strip.

Well, at least weâre getting some insight into Shannonâs mind. They can build on that. Maybe sheâll take up Equestrian sports or something. It could also teach her some responsibility (i.e. how to take care of a pony).
Sisyphos over 10 years ago
Shannon is, of course, expressing what she would like to get for Luannâs birthday. Toni can offer more practical advice, but in general Brad should keep it simple and elegantâŠ.

I have never met a little California girl who didnât want her own pony. It is cheaper to rent the pony though. One year a pony was rented for my granddaughterâs birthday party. It was brought into the subdivision where the Fair Oaks airport used to be, and all the party goers got to ride it. I just bought her some riding clothes that was on her Amazon wish list. She is getting interested in the sport of riding rather than being a cowgirl, I guess, but cowgirl boots are on her wish list, too. ~I donât think anyone reported a pony being in the subdivision to the homeowners association. If they did they would probably have been laughed at. ~Luann would probably love a brand new Mustang, or better still, a 1965 Corvette Stingray all restored.

Thereâs the classic outâ the most desired present for teens to receive is a gift card.*Then thereâs my wayâ buy them something I liked at their age at a store in their area, so they get a story along with an item to be exchanged.

Sheâll be 18. Thereâs a Victoriaâs Secret in that mall. Let your girlfriend pick. (And note carefully what she picks, for your own future reference.) If Quillâs head explodes, you know you chose well.

My only problem with âgift cardsâ is that, yes, you get what you want; but thereâs no surprise involved, no âmy ____ got this for meâ, no cherished memory attached.Having said that; one of the last gifts my Mother got me for Christmas 2000 (the day she died) was a JC Pennyâs card (she was a long-time loyal customer). By the time I felt like redeeming it, fees had eaten up itâs entire âvalueâ, in addition to any good feeling that might have attached itself to this last gift.I havenât stepped inside a Pennys since.

A long time ago, on the streets of Baltimore, produce vendors (called âArab-ersâ) would sell their goods up and down the streets. When I was a kid there, one was kind enough to let me ride on his pony for a few blocks (ah, good times, good times!). And, of course, the pony was kind enough to let me â I guess thatâs why I didnât bother too much asking for one growing up. After that dream was fulfilled, well, that dream to hit one off of Jim âCatfishâ Hunter into the upper decks and/or also that dream to have âthe Cars/Poco/Firefall/Genesisâ open up for me (sigh)âŠ. could just never measure upâŠ.

Aaah! I remember all our forumâs âhardware and locksmithâ discussions about it, as though it were only a few months agoâŠ.
JayBluE over 10 years ago
Uh, they did play. They did their part. They hid . The object for them was to âhideâ. Shannon was designated as the âseekâ. They hid. They were so great at it, it bought them some QT, since Shannon wasnât able to find them. They âkilled two birds with one stoneââŠ..
JayBluE over 10 years ago
And this, too, as we all discussed thenâŠ
JayBluE over 10 years ago
â. Here they do the opposite, but neither is technically playing, "^Again, they hid . As I previously stated, they didnât leave the house, they didnât have her hide and âlock herselfâ somewhere. They played . They made sure it was them to be the âhider/sâ. â Usually, in âhide and seekâ, the seeker has to find you. You donât call out: âAre you in here?â (Or at least you know you wonât get an answer). The âhider/sâ would be âdefeating the purposeâ to âgive away their locationâ on purpose. The seeker tries to get them to reveal themselves. They considered themselves as âoutsmarting herâ in finding a place to hide as good as they thought it was (which wasnât as good for them on their end, as was shown in the subsequent strips). But again, they were playing. Either way (technical or non-technical)âŠ.

âWhen you hide, you have to hide in a place where someone can actually find youâŠâ^I⊠donât remember the rule that says that . Except if it was a âSeekerâ who made that rule. Iâll have to check the âOfficial Manualâ made by Parkour Brothers (twins whose last name is the same as that "roof-jumping craze)âŠ
JayBluE over 10 years ago
âIs that how you would play hide and seek with small children? Go to your room and lock the door? Honestly?â^Honestly, that all gets sorted out when you play. For instance, âsuch and such is the baseâ for âitâsâ (what we called tag). "Weâd also say what could and couldnât be the base, and whatever else. We did the same for âHide and Seekâ. â I came from a time when people could go about the neighborhood, but the rule was âmake sure youâre home by darkâ . For some, the rule was that, plus the periodic âcheck inâ and âWhen I call, you better come!â. These days, itâs not so âkosherâ in some places to do that, but for some, it is still possible. â So hiding in a house would seem like a âwalk in the parkâ. The only rules would be donât go âPunky Brewsterâ and hide in an abandoned refrigerator, donât go out of the house, and anything âcommon senseâ. And thatâs what Greg was basing it on. â As far as not being able to find them, thatâs the game . Somebody has to win, and somebody has to lose. Shannon wasnât âupsetâ. After all, she did go to rescue B&T. She couldâve âgot them backââŠ..
JayBluE over 10 years ago
Shannon is six. She is not a âfour year oldâ. Six year olds are pretty âwily and wary". They played the game with a precocious, smart, inventive, creative child of six. I donât think that Mr. Evans would have depicted this if it were a four year old, that hadnât even been to pre school . It seemed appropriate (comic strip wise), given her age. However, I cannot dictate how others in real life would do it. Some would, some wouldnât. But the whole point from all this is what B&T were doing. That was the core of this discussion. They were playing along, and playing another âgameâ at the same timeâŠ..
JayBluE over 10 years ago
âThey realized they were emotionally abusing a small child by hiding behind a locked door and not responding to her asking if they were in there.â^Hoh, boyâŠ..

JayBluE over 10 years ago
âThat wasnât even the same day.â^Well, that wasnât what I was saying. The point I posted it is to show that itâs Shannonâs old MO . Itâs an example of her formerly demanding nature, and ability to âmanipulate and controlâ, which is why Toni called her a âmini Eiffelâ⊠â The example showed that Luann got bothered, because Shannon didnât respect the boundaries (nor desires) of othersâŠ.
JayBluE over 10 years ago
âIâm pretty sure the idea was that Luann is also a selfish little snit, and thatâs the joke, Luann doesnât realize it.â^Look again. Shannon took the bowl, switching it for the black bowl that she had while Luann was talking. That was the âgagâ in that stripâŠLuann not noticing as she did it, and was âcasualâ about the whole thing when Luann lectured herâŠ
