Coming Soon š At the beginning of April, youāll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
At the end of this story, wouldnāt it be great to see all the various characters that have been involved (Tracy, Annie, Sam, Pat, Tess, Johnny, Fritz Ann, Lizz, Ebony, B.O., Gertie, Sparkle, Influence, Annie, Daddy, Punjab, the Asp, Mr. Am, the Silos, Lum & Abner, Hot Shot Charlie [fingers are starting to ache!], and whoever I may have forgotten [Pouch?]) get together for at least a few panels to celebrate!
Good Morning,I canāt say anything bad about the art, itās alway A+ quality IMO. The story is a different story, at least this time.
On a related note, Iām really excited to say Iām going to get to see a B-17 up close this weekend at a WWII vintage aircraft show. Iāve never seen one except in movies. Actually Iāve never seen any WWII aircraft in person for that matter. I canāt wait.
Who in the cast of characters has parachute experience? Itās not a game for amateurs, especially at night. During WWII, parachute units generally expected to lose up to a third of their soldiers just in the drop (not all dead, some injured, trapped in trees, etc.) Mind you, some of the chutes look square or rectangular, which would indicate they are using modern types with better gliding and steering etc.
Hotshot Charlieās plane is a B-17G; you can tell this by the chin turret mounted on the nose. I have been blessed enough to have seen a number of World War 2 aircraft at a small air show that is held every year in Winston-Salem, NC.
Would love to see my alltime favorite, Johnny Hazard, there to help out. He fly many planes during his 33 years in existence from 1944 to 1977. Frank Robbins was an expert on them.
@W H H: Actually Iāve never seen any WWII aircraft in person for that matter. I canāt wait.
We had a B-17 from the CAF come in for an air show. It did a ā12 OāClock Highā 45 degree bank over the highway ā literally stopped all traffic on the road with people watching, and the sound of those enginesā¦. They also had a B-24 like my brother-in-law flew. I could not believe he was able to bail out after he was shot down over Polesti. They didnāt call them the āFlying Coffinsā just because of the shape.
Again, not one to have followed any of the strips that have been ācrossed overā of late ā are we to believe that Terry of the Pirates is dead? And, if so, just how old are these, his contemporaries? Including Richard, of courseā¦
Creativity in comics must be given free reign. Literalism and strict adherence to the calendar would render Tracy over one hundred years old. How hamstrung and tiresome that would be. Hotshot Charlie was previously introduced as the owner of a local airline in or near Tracyville. The exact nature of his military service is rendered irrelevant. What strikes me is the bold stroke of including a crossover within the crossover. For Hotshot Charlie to be repaying Daddy Warbucks a favor in Dick Tracy is delightful fun. If things slowed down a bit in Simmons Corners, they certainly are picking up steam now. The action tends to be sweeter after a slow build up..Sign me up for that cast of characters gathering. Pouch can sell balloons.
A poster of the whole cast of this story is a great idea. By my count, there are about 30.Punjab could be holding out the blanket, with the Butcherās ghostly face on it.And Iām like everyone else ā love todayās art.
yeh i can just see it now.. a big sunday splash page with EVERYONE involved in the story celebrating annieās wonderful returnā¦ since hank oāhair made an appearance a while back maybe brenda starr can cover the she-bang for the news (competing with wendy wichel for the story of course) basil st john can supply the flowers (black orchids only please!) and winnie winkle can design some up to date, contemporary duds for annie to wear to the celebrationā¦ uncle ray can give a blessing to annie and ollie and his team for a safe journey out of tracyville and back into obscurity, while frizzletop and her husband dennis arrange a tickertape parade which will be interrupted by gunfire and prompt blackjack to intervene and save tracyās hideā¦ wendy wihcel will discover ollieās manipulation of not only the Mayor of Tracyville, but using the MCU as his own personal private detective agency (he SHOULD have contracted tess and johnny), stiletta will begin hurling knives at people, bb eyes, mumbles, and doubleup will pitch in to help, kadaver will reappear to cast a ghostly pallor over the celebration, only to have drās ghote, sail and their sputnik lackey crash land the sparkle plenty space coupe dead center of main Street in Tracyvilleā¦ the ruckus will cause sparkle such stress that she will FINALLY go into labor and give birth to the baby that sheās been carrying for what.. a YEAR already?
SO MUCH to look forward to.. and i havent even mentioned Blaze Rize returning or the super-soggy Nitrate siblings!
(and in case none of ya āgot itā.. my previous post was HUMOUR, intended to try and recall exactly what storylines were still up in the air.. and heck, i forgot about franken-mindyās evolving moon powers and those creepy/mysterious moon people that were hanging around moon maidās gravesite too!)
someone asked about Whereās Terry. The strip was discontinued in 1975 I believe, possibly because George Wunder, who took over a while after Caniff moved on, drew every character to look the same. It became difficult to tell Terry from the Dragon Lady after a while. Actually Hotshot was the only character identifiable. Welcome back Chazz. The art makes you look a lot better.
Another late start for me. As with many others, I am impressed with todayās strip. Donāt rule out a shore approach to accompany the parachute drop!
Only Morrow seems to have noted the difficulty in parachuting out of a B-17 that I had noted yesterday. But letting that go as artistic license, it is still likely that bailing out of a low-flying, relatively slow-moving WWII bomber is going to attract possibly unwanted attention. The high mortality rate among trained paratroops under WWII conditions is relevant indeed.I, too, wonder what has become of Colonel Terence Lee; I was hoping heād show up alongside his old buddy, Hotshot Charlieā¦.
SIGH While I have no problem with a certain poster stalking me on the comments board and trying (unsuccessfully) to upset me with his amateurish attempts at being witty itās truly unfortunate that in this age of enlightenment he feels itās acceptable to try to get under my skin by making fun of our fellow earthlings who happen to have a Jamaican accent. Sad.

I agree. A poster of todayās strip would be epic. Even if only the last panel.

So I have to ask, why didnāt they use a boat? Itās not exactly a sneak approach, jumping out of a very noisy plane.
