Back in the ‘80s I worked at a place that allowed dressing up in costume for Halloween. I’ll never forget how a friend of mine, named Angel, had dressed. He did the table bit, like Mike (only he remembered the legs), but painted his face and hair with bright colors, added a beak, and put a bird cage over his head! It was brilliant.
He needs a tablecloth. This is actually a cute idea.
On a different subject, I’ve got to ask@howtheduck why do you read this strip? You seem to gain no pleasure from it at all. When my paper ran “F-Minus” I thought it was a dumb strip, so I just skipped over it. On GoComics one has to actively click on strips that you dislike. Do you read “War & Peace” for fun?
I think Ellie historically makes some really nice Halloween costumes for her kids. I can’t remember how this particular one winds up though. It takes a lot of time and energy to make a nice homemade costume.
Hmm. Is today’s comic supposed to be funny in some fashion that I am not getting? Or is it that today, John is just being truthful (and a bit mean) and there is no humor? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++My favorite Halloween arc from FBoFW is the series where Michael goes as Sherlock Holmes! So many of the panels in that arc were wonderful!
Actually I have always loved the strip. I was pregnant with my youngest while Elly was pregnant with April. It was very neat to see some of the things I was going through addressed in the strip. I was much younger than Elly, so I didn’t relate to her feeling too old, but with being on forced bed rest she brightened up my day. I have always found John & Elly’s parenting skills to be somewhat realistic. I mentioned a while back that the newspaper I was reading at the time censored Lawrence’s coming out strips. I didn’t get to read them until years later when I found the book in the library that had those strips.
felinefan55: That’s the advantage of libraries, the censors can’t burn them all. Unfortunately, some gems must wait for the archeologists rather than those it was written for.
Duck, once I sat back and really paid attention to what you write, I would neither call you a troll, nor accuse you of “hating” the strip.People who hate a particular book or comic strip rarely spend the amount of time you obviously do to research both the artist/writer and the history of the strip. Trolls make nasty comments with nothing to back it up. You have never made a remark that I can find that was not either obviously true from that day’s strip or carefully researched (if not always referenced).Thank you for the entertainment value, and for the ringside seat.

Mike’s costume does indeed need work.

So much for being a “monster”…so how is a “talking head” going to mix with the “mad scientist” theme? =-O

John is right though. Michael needs to add a few legs so that people understand it is a table.

I once saw someone dressed as an ‘after’ John the Baptist rather like this.

why do you read this comic since you obviously hate it so much?

Maybe this is where Dad gets involved, and helps Mike create a proper “table.”

Michael’s “costume” looks like it was inspired by Max Headroom. I believe the timeline matches.
