Sun: "Hi, Viper!"
Viper: "Sun. Denise."
Viper: "Got another package for Dez"
Bernice: "She's never shown up, Viper. Just put it with the other-"
Viper: "Where's the other package?"
Bernice: "Uh... I don't know...."
Sun: "Dez showed up!"
Maybe Moony Uni is in San Francisco, and they already have the rudimentary “Transporter” system in place, at what will soon be “Starfleet HQ”…. – That would explain how “Dez” got a hold of the other package…..I think…. – It’s a good thing that Dez is from the boroughs… cos if she was in there, she was in and out in a “New York minute”! – Maybe there should be a sign saying “Dez was here, along with George Washington, Elvis and and those missing socks from the dryer”….
It is not as much fun to have today’s comic show up already in one of the last few posts of “yesterday.” I like to be surprised at 10:10 pm each evening (except Saturday evening) when the comic is published. Just something I like to do… ;)
“The Invisible Woman”“A Very Short Roomate”“Fast Feet And A Flash Drive”“The Bermuda Dorm Angle”“Unsolved Mysteries”“How Nice To Not Meet You”“A Cheerful Sun And A Dour Grape”
“I Know Why The Caged Ferret Stinks”or“Me And My Roomate’s Shadow” (♫)
Well, I am about to snooze in my computer chair…was up way too early this morning! I mean… the sun wasn’t even up yet! IS Katie is recovering nicely from the effects of the anesthesia that the vet has to use during teeth cleaning (actually it is the CVT who does the cleaning). Anyway, my beautiful Irish Setter girl is sound asleep on the rug. Time for both of us to head up to bed! ‘Nite all, see y’all later on in the day… ;)-—————————————————————————“They are not long, the weeping and the laughter, Love, desire, and hate: I think they have no portion in us after We pass the gate. They are not long, the days of wine and roses: Out of a misty dream Our path emerges for a while, then closes Within a dream.”(Ernest Dowson, 1867-1900)
Don’t call me “Denise”! My name is Bernice!Dear Bernice, you can’t change a viper’s fangs. She might already be perturbed that the other package is gone with only Sun’s optimistic hope that Dez was there without you even noticing!
“Isn’t a “New York Minute” about the same as 34 hours, Minnesota time? :)”-Yes, what is a New York Minute? I had some say they would hire me in a New York Minute. I couldn’t figure out if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
I think I’ve figured it out. We are never going to see Dez. Like Wilson’s face in Home Improvements. It’s one of those artistic quirks that many people can’t seem to grasp.
Greg has also done the “character only partially seen” thing before. In the early period of the strip (at least 1985-86), neither Frank nor Nancy was fully seen on panel.
Good points. I’m also suspicious of the idea that Bernice ha to pass messages for Viper (as mentioned in the Sept. 12 strip). Anybody that Viper needs to send messages to, she can communicate with herself without needing to go through Bernice. (I would be surprised if Viper’s contacts didn’t have their own cell phones, because in the United States, there are more cell phones than people.)
Dez must secretly be Batman because how else could she have gotten into the dorm, picked up a package, and left without Bernice (who’s been in her dorm most of the day) not seeing her. It’s like…hmmm…<<
Ok, I’m getting used to Sun & Viper now. Perhaps this is an arc about Bern’s growing up— getting falsely blamed, defending herself, getting angry, and copping a chic college attitude. (She’ll redeem herself when Dez appears, paying for the original bag.)*ANd those who resented having the cat let out of the bag early— didn’t you mean ferret out of the cage? Doesn’t he look cute on Sun’s shoulder?
IJM – about your story yesterday of going to a friend’s house only to have his mother innocently ask you all these stereotyped questions. (Glad you didn’t “educate” her!) *I had to write a diversity manual for work— using “Cultural Competence” rather than “Cultural Blindness”. It was challenging, as sometimes stereotypes ARE in fact accurate. So we had our trainees use them as questions, “Do you want to chat before we get down to business?” “What kind of vegetable would you like?” “What show would you prefer to watch?” NOT “Your kind likes to first form relationships” or “Your kind likes collards”. Cultural differences exist, but we shouldn’t assume anything about an individual.
Doesn’t Bernice go anywhere but her room? There could be some interesting stories in her first exploits on the college campus, classes, homework assignments. And really, the drawing on these two characters is very poor. A stereotypical Asian and a 40-year-old goth?

I hope Sun is right. Otherwise, Bernice might have trouble on her hands. Viper doesn’t look like the kind of kid to cross…

I still say she’s a “Silent” from Dr. Who. Nobody’s looking at her, so they don’t remember that she was there.

Dez only comes around when Bernice is in class. At least she doesn’t leave dirty dishes everywhere.

So Bernice has the female equivalent of ……..The Shadow!!! And Sun looks like Linus waiting for The Great Pumpkin.

Anyone have any ideas why Bernice doesn’t correct Viper ’s calling her “Denise”?

GoComics is updated at 1:10AM here. How do other people in the Eastern Time Zone get it earlier than that?

Sun reminds me of Noodle from Gorillaz.

Not much to say about this one, except – quit being a doormat, Bernice! And – back to anatomy class, Greg – learn to draw boobies!

Its called a “Question.” USE It OFTEN, Denise. I MEAN, Bernice!

Dez is the Vera and Maris of this strip (“Cheers” and “Frasier” references abound).

Having a roommate who leaves the whole room to you alone sounds like a pretty good deal to me, even if it means housing a ferret.
