Well, Tracy found Annie. What’s he going to do now, figure out who framed Roger Rabbit? Looks like he just dropped in to Toontown. Even the Crimestoppers Textbook drawing looks toony. Actually, I think Mike is just softening us up for a future crossover with Hot Stuff the little devil.
Or, is this the animated movie Vera Aldid was making, now produced by Kane Studios? Anyway, this is silly.
Even Jim Doherty’s Crimestoppers Textbook has he silhouette of a character as the hitchhiker that I’m sure we all should know, but I’m at a loss to identify! Great Sunday all around!
That’s the real Sparkplug, not the namesake we saw in a previous story. For those who don’t know these characters, see Barney Google and Snuffy Smith on Wikipedia. According the the Wikipedia article, it’s currently in more than 900 papers. It’s also the ultimate origin of the name of the famous search engine, Google.
O. M. G. This is not a serious crossover, I hope! Tracy and Snuffy Smith are from different universes! As a one-off gag, fine, but not as a protracted crossover arc!
It took weeks for Tracy to find Annie, now in one day he finds Barney Google, who hasn’t been seen in his own comic for decades. Or maybe Barney has just been busy on his computer.
I miss the Little Orphan Annie crossover BADLY. Since then:—1. Used to read all comments. Now maybe 2 or 3 times a week2. The number of comments per day are down by maybe 60%3. At least most of the bitching and backstabbing has stopped4. I love the art to bits, even if I have no idea where DT is going! 5. In Joe Staton, Mike Curtis et. al. I trust. Hallelujah!
Morning, Tracyville!I doubt if we’re starting another crossover story. It’s probably a cameo, like we had with Lum and Abner a while back, something Team Tracy enjoys doing. And it’s so much fun!
When I was a kid, I remember being fascinated by the landscape in the Barney Google and Snuffy Smith strip. All the cliffs and ledges, back roads and such. Joe did a great job on that in the first main panel! However, I agree with the folks who don’t want to see Dick Tracy get too cartoony. We got the word a while ago that Mike and Joe were going to use about two weeks after Annie to catch up on several characters. We seem to be wandering down a new path here. Crossovers and cameos are fun, but I hope they use moderation.
Wow ! With SPARKPLUG - comes “promise” of a ‘step up’ (even two?) in the pacing department – on this new assignment, over the - leisurely, Dicky (‘billy-stick’) - dalliance, seen in Simmons Corners !
Wow!I’m as surprised by the comments as I am to see Barney Google! (I was expecting a loud chorus of shouts of horror and anger!) Looks like most people agree with me, that it’s fun to see the other characters visit the Tracyverse.
Bodacious thanks Joe and Mike! You guys are amazing! The Barney Google and Snuffy Smith/Dick Tracy crossover continues tomorrow at www.snuffysmithcomics.com and comicskingdom.com!
By the way, I was on a road like that this summer. At least it looked like a road on the map but it wasn’t very suitable for a car and we eventually found a place where it was possible to turn around. Maybe we should have had a horse. I wonder what brings Dick Tracy to this remote place and I wonder if it’s still under the jurisdiction of the City. I guess so.
Snuffy Smith runs daily in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. And Barney Google does sometimes appear. But that’s no excuse for letting B B Eyes and the rest run riot. What’s next—chasing Krazy Kat?
Here is a link to the current “Barney Google and Snuffy Smith” strip by John Rose. You will not want to miss tomorrow’s strip!“Dick Tracy in Hootin’ Holler!”
Meanwhile, in the city, Sam and Lizz have busted Hans and Fritz, the Katzenjammer Kids, for vandalism, felonious mischief, and attacking the captain (theirs, not the Chief) with a baboon.
“Kane Studios?” There’s nothing to support that’s a Batman reference except similarity of name. Bob Kane didn’t make films, but if the speculation about the woman having a candy cane in her mouth is correct, it is even less likely a Batman reference.
I love Staton and Curtis for what they’ve done for Dick Tracy, and I would never attack them for decisions they make. It’s their strip and they have to make it the way they want to make it, like Gould did. That said, if they really want our opinions on the crossovers, I would tell them I’m a little tired of it and leave it at that.Unless we’re talking about a Nova Kane or Jessica Rabbit crossover. Green lights and thumbs up all around in that case. :)

Nice to see Dick Tracy doesn’t go from one shootout or crime wave to another. Always thought he had a more varied existence than it seemed…..
