Rat: Hey, Goat... What football team is your favorite.
Goat: My favorite? The greatest team in football. The (editors- please fill in name of local football team.)
Rat: You pandering idiot.
Pastis: That should have worked.
Would’ve worked fine in the days before spell check and auto-correct, back when editors spoke proper English and still could pass a fourth grade spelling test.
As a Yank, I wouldn’t want to miss the MARK with my reply so I’ll just take a PUNCHPASS on saying anything. After all my GOAL is to not be left feeling BEHIND the eight ball.
I received my new “Box O’Morons” box. It was empty. I suppose I will have to put my own morons in there. But which ones? There are SOOOO many to choose from.
This is my second box. If any is thinking about one of these boxes, get one. They are really nice.
Soccer is great for young children, any one can get out on the grass and run around part of the time and get some good exercise. Beyond the age of 12, soccer is just boring and irritating as grown men fall without being touched and cry as if in great pain. Hockey is mainly slippery soccer without the drama.i
my favorite team……whoever’s playing New England. Hopefully they’ll get eliminated this weekend and we’ll all get to see Brady sitting on the bench pouting again
Funny strip today. I’m not a big _________ fan, so I don’t care much if ___________wins. I might watch the ______ Bowl, but only for entertainment. I played ________ in my youth, and enjoyed it a lot.
WHOA!! betcha inspiration sprang from the twitterverse, whether stephan can admit it or not. see, today’s strip resembles a Rob Hyndman tweet from three days ago. this one: https://twitter.com/rhh/status/551939064232804353
snipped..Rob Hyndman @rhh> “Very nice to hear that you are so proud of your [insert name here] sports team. They undoubtedly feel the same way about you.”
Well, DukeDoug, most of us Yanks who’ve even heard of Aussie rules football is haven’t seen it since ESPN used to carry VFL games back in 1979-80 when they were scuffling for any kind of programming. I was thinking rugby myself.
Now cricket? That I can talk about (used to host a weekly cricket program on shortwave radio), although I haven’t followed it since Ponting, Warne, McGrath, the Waughs, et al, were playing.
I think Stephen got the idea from the “Your Child’s Name HERE” customizable books you can order. The type font the kids name is in never matches the rest of the book but….
One of my elementary schools (we moved around a lot when I was a kid and I went to five or six elementary schools before I ever made it to junior high), second to last in fact, had put in a school wide TV system and had it’s own in school TV news show with students as the anchors. Basically the news was stuff that would have come out of Weekly Reader. But I vividly remember one instance of them doing a “whose going to win the Super Bowl” in ‘86, interviewing some of the students and teachers. I remember it vividly cause I was one of the kids they pulled into the library (where they filmed the show) and asked. I didn’t follow football, still don’t, and had no clue who the teams were. So I picked the Patriots, think it was either because the name sounded, well, patriotic or because my teacher had picked the Patriots and I thought she must be smart enough to know who the winner was going to be (come to think of it I think maybe she picked the Bears and I just didn’t want to look like I was mimicking her). The Patriots lost that year.

It didn’t specify pro or college, so I’m pretty sure that should read THE Ohio State University Buckeyes. But, that might just be me….. ;-)

DODGERS!
What World War II movie didn’t have somebody from Brooklyn? They were America’s team before the term was invented.
Now, if we’re talking Premier League Football, I’m a little biased because there’s a team with my family name…

Either the Rough Riders or the Roughriders. When they play each other the commentary is very confusing.
