Pavlov’s cats? It was in fact the first thing that crossed my mind, even before seeing the comments; but I have to agree that “Pavlov’s cats” isn’t the funniest or even most obvious of jokes. Perhaps that’s why the McCoys thought it was funny, because it wasn’t obvious.

Lots of cat toys have bells and the cats know it. My wife put a cat toy in a stocking and my daughter’s cat came running to see what it was…
