Danae: You'll be happy to know I fixed my "African Tiger" report. Ned: Really? How'd you do it so quickly? Danae: Easy...wherever it said "tiger" I just changed it to "elephant"! Ned: Uh...nothing else changed? Danae: No...why? Ned: Ok, first of all, one is a predator and the other is an herbivore... Danae:...And it's preachy sermon time again...

Hah. I just remembered an incident that happened to me in Jr.High. I was in seventh grade and had to take OHIO history. One of the assignments was a report on an Ohio historical site. Well, my father is a history buff and suggested I write a report on Fort Laurens during the American Revolutionary war… built to defend against the British garrison in Detroit. It was attacked many times and there were American army casualties. It is a recognized historical site… My dad took me to the library and helped me find out the history of Ft. Laurens. then I had to take notes and compose it several times until he was satisfied with the accuracy… spelling, grammar etc. I handed it in and received an F because the teacher said it never happened and I had made it up… I was upset and even told the teacher that I had looked it up in the public library. He told me not to lie to him again…
Boy was my dad Pissed off. My dad is a DDS… He is no dummy and at the time of the incident he was a member of the Local School Board. He took the paper with the teacher’s marks and notes, that this never happened and said to me…"Son don’t worry about this I’ll handle it…that was the last I heard of the incident. Until two years later when he mentioned that this particular teacher’s contract was not renewed and an addendum was added to his file that he didn’t know his subject and caution should be used if he were to be hired at another school district… this paper was written in 1964-65. A long time ago.

That guy has got to get rid of cable. Otherwise Danae might end up in Congress.

The father has the supportive part of parenting down, and given Danae’s reaction to his support, it’s time for the father to exercise the discipline part of parenting.

Oh now Danae, just wait a minute. What is this ‘preachy’ stuff? Now just not sure I want to read dis report, not the millions of others on the net and elsewhere. Bet you get together with Wiley and define your terms. Of course, not ‘preachy’ style.

Nicely done Wiley. Nearly had a coffee/keyboard incident. Why is it that this reminds me of something…? ;^)

We were studying Pearl Harbor in the fifth grade. Teacher insisted it was located in the Philippines. Having visited Pearl three years prior, I corrected her. She took me to principal’s office. He also corrected her!

Does that ever make you wonder how we could get continental glaciers in a very cold world if the moisture from the seas couldn’t travel more than a few miles before falling as snow or rain, leaving the interior bone dry?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The interior of Antarctica is one of the driest deserts on Earth yet it is covered with two miles of ice. Whatever snow one see blowing around is just that, blowing snow, not fresh snowfall.

If Danae didn’t change anything else, were her elephants eating cape buffalo (or other elephants?)

wrwallaceii – had the same thing happen to one of my kids, I subscribed to National Geographic and the Smithsonian magazine. The assignment was to fictionalize a real historical event. My kid wrote about the Boston Molasses Spill , involving going back in time and while not being able to prevent it, was able to delay it long enough so that it happened later in the day (as it actually did) so not as many people and schoolchildren were on the street to be killed. The teacher gave him an F, since it had to be a real historical event, and when he brought in the Smithsonian magazine to prove it, she told him he couldn’t bring that “religious” stuff to school.

This is nuts! I’ve met people in real life who say and do the same things Danae does. Only they say things I can’t really post here when corrected…

And a rather boring one at that. It’s the same story every time.

I remember a story where a student got points taken off on a paper about Harry S Truman because he didn’t put a period after the S. He told teacher S wasn’t an initial, it was his middle name. Teacher wouldn’t believe him. Kid writes to Truman and receives letter back verifying kid was right and teacher was wrong. Truman had two grandfathers whose names started with S, so he was given S as a middle name to avoid showing partiality.

Why couldn’t she just change tiger to lion?
