@A Common ‘tater… from Tony Blair’s address to ambassadors in 2003: " I sometimes think it is a good rule of thumb to ask of a country: are people trying to get into it or out of it? It’s not a bad guide to what sort of country it is."
There’s nothing wrong with people wanting to come to America legally if they don’t expect people already here to change our lives and ways of doing things to suit them.
hmmm wondering what the point is? that everybody wants to live in a kingdom where the king is a fink and all believe his speeches rather than actions? or that if you live in a great nation that is great because of ALL the ways it does things, that you have an obligation to let everybody in no matter what? guess my little gray cells can’t figure out the spin on this one.
The government screwed the Indians out of everything they could. Now they are working on the rest of us….with the exception of those who financed their election campaigns.
Hmm last I remembered Americans were once ruled over by the British but rebelled and fought for their freedom. And I’m pretty sure there’s other countries that have rebelled against tyrants. But I guess you expect others to take care of all of your problems for you, don’t you?
“So, then if we help do anything about all those poor oppressed people, that makes us imperialists, right?”.Cursed if you do, cursed if you don’t.Surprising so many are willing to risk death to reach this accursed nation. One of my own ancestors built his own boat to escape British rule over Ireland to enter this nation illegally. Landed at Murphy’s Point here in Florida. He figured it was worth the risk and beat starving or remaining a slave to the church and empire.Others had other tales.Others met those with those tales.
I can bridge the gap on the immigration thing. Abolish all but one limitation on immigration, and prohibit citizenship, voting, and all welfare until one has paid Federal income taxes for 20 consecutive years. The one limitation: show pictures of Mohammed having sex with his mother in an outhouse and require all immigrants to agree that there is nothing wrong with drawing same.

Every immigrant wave has enriched America culturally and economically. I say let ’em in.

It might be repairable, if we don’t “crash” and “total” it…
