Who would ralph on your clean sheets? Get shedding fur in your food? Annoy you first thing upon waking to get fed? Stink up the house?

Yes, cats can do all those things, but it’s all worth it. And if you don’t agree, just don’t have a cat.

only have one cat and I love him, he does all the annoying things but he is so cute when he plays and keeps us laughing. I did an Arlo last night, looking for him before bed. Not sure where he was but he showed up in the middle of the night lol

It is part of the fundamental structure of the universe that no cat who is searched for can be found. The NSA couldn’t find a cat if it’s not time to be found. But go inside for two minutes, and when you go back out, the unfindable cat may well be sitting there. This would happen even on the Bonneville salt flats where you can see for miles in all directions. I suspect cats have Dr. Who-like abilities to cross dimensions. They clearly can see across them, as any cat owner knows from seeing their cat stare at what they cannot see.

Just sit down and open a book or newspaper. The cat will materialize between you and the reading material.

Or between you and the screen!

the cat is their child. they take more interest in him than their kid who hasn’t been mentioned at all since last year. they had a boat at one time but it must have sank since they never mention it either.

Does anyone ACTUALLY NEED aa cat?

Arlo needs the cat to listen to him when he wants to talk to someone because as a wife and companion Janis is useless.

If you didn’t have one, you would miss one, just like right now….

Mine has learned that walking on my keyboard when I am typing will get my attention every time.

Someone received an Ignoble award for writing a software package that warns you if a cat is walking on your keyboard. That would really be nice if it warned the readers of the GC comments. At times, I wonder who or what is typing. (Not on this strip, of course.)

We had cats and a dog growing up with our family as a child. Now many years later, my adult siblings have animals and children. I don’t. I am single and alone. I used to babysit the animals when they went away. I also babysat their human children. For 15 years. All unappreciated. People who have pets and children are often the most selfish people in the world. They foist them upon others who choose not to have animals or children. Pretty sad!

Well that’s one way to write Ludwig out of the strip.
