Transcript:
Teacher: What is art? On March 26, 1972, Charles Schulz's "Peanuts" showed Sally asking the teacher why she got a C on her coat hangar sculpture." Teacher: "How do we judge art? Can a child create it? Can anyone? What defines and "Artist"? Is art the result of a careful process, or it it merely a burst of random spontaneity? Teacher: "For example- Is this art? Student: "Sorry, I was shaking the bottle..."

Better let Luann be excuse herself to the bathroom, professor, so she can get the paint off her face and clothes before it hardens and stains even further.

I always love a shout out to Charles Schulz.

Well at least this lecture is coherent this time.

Looks like Ze-bo chose the âFreddy Jonesâ look from âScooby DooââŠwith a touch of âMr. Furleyâ from â3s Companyâ⊠â Perhaps âJock-oâ was busy humming this catchy tune from the CarsâŠ. â Between âEmoâ, Luann and âJockâ, there seems to be a combination of something blue, something yellow, and something red (or alternatively perhaps a bit of the âCMYKâ [Cyan,Magenta,Yellow and âKey/Blackâ])⊠â Bob Ross would have comforted them all, by explaining that it was really just a âhappy accidentââŠ.

Well, according to the Peanuts strip from 3/26/72, Sally asked some pretty thought provoking questions.. â
ILuvLu almost 10 years ago
How did we get from paper mache to paint?
Angelalex242 almost 10 years ago
By that point, I think the teacher wants to hang her from a coathanger.
sarafaye almost 10 years ago
I would have dropped that class long before this.
JayBluE almost 10 years ago
To loosely quote Bond, The bottle was âshakenâ, but Luann was the one that was âstirredââŠ
Argythree almost 10 years ago
Wouldnât a normal person check to see if the lid was on securely before shaking a bottle? (and why is it necessary to shake a bottle of paint, when there are usually little sticks available to stir the paint?)-One thing is likely as a result of this mess. âMr. Jockâ is less likely to become Quillâs replacement. Letâs hope Luann can find someone new who isnât a dunce, and doesnât enjoy making fun of her.-Or, at the very least, letâs hope that Luann changes her seat in this alleged âclassâ so she can sit near someone who is worth hanging withâŠ

Zeboâs started off his lecture today with one statement tucked away inside seven questions. Whoâs supposed to be teaching whom here?

Todayâs Luann had a good start. However the slot machine went Bar â Bar â LemonâŠ

Hey, Zebo, go back to looking at yourself in the mirror!
Sisyphos almost 10 years ago
Zebo prattles on, while a significant portion of his class dabbles on its own. This seems about right..Sorry, Luann. Never wear your good clothes to a studio art class (look at Zebo the Clown!)

Can a child create art? Someone other than Tony Rubinois doing it for Daddyâs Home! LOL. AND THE HITS JUST KEEP ON COMING!!

Luann chooses larger panels. She could take any two rows of the three, and I believe for her space allocation its meant to be the bottom two. She would be short a little of the space, but not as much as was implied. There are some modern day cartoonists who do more inspired Sunday strips (Frazz) as well as the âoldâ format like Shulz had.
That said, I would love to see more space on offer. Individual cartoonists may not want it (and in fact I think that the top row of strips like Shulzâs gets cut off in some newspapers, because I have seen âboth versionsâ of some. But for those that do, cool. And maybe some of the rest could support a few more new strips. Iâm delighted Dana Simpson is getting a chance, but Iâd like to see a few more as well!

To quote THIS strip from Peanuts is brillant !
I always admired SallyÂŽs way of arguing there.
cdgar almost 10 years ago
Gregâs very lucky that his weekly paycheck isnât based on the quality of the Sunday cartoons alone, or heâd be very hungry this coming week.

It is art. Being slathered with blue paint improves Ms Inner Beautyâs outer beauty no end.
celeconecca almost 10 years ago
theyâre using tempera paint in college art classes?
dre7861 almost 10 years ago
Oh God, Colonel Zebo invades the Sunday Strip. He must be stopped before he takes over the world.
This might sound like a lighthearted comment but I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, hate Zebo and will be glad when next semester rolls around!

No, THAT Is ASSAULT, by Moronic Caveman.
cubswin2016 almost 10 years ago
I donât like that teacher at all.
BeniHanna6 Premium Member almost 10 years ago
And thatâs the trouble with modern art. As long as some rich moron latches on to some âArtistâ and sponsors them, any one or thing can be a âArtistâ. Good examples are the passing off of ape painting in the mid twentieth century as work by talented human âArtistsâ.

The guy is a fruit loop.
Charlie Fogwhistle almost 10 years ago
If you can call it art and get somebody to part with good $$ for it, itâs art. Thatâs the only definition that seems to apply anymore.
TORAD_07 almost 10 years ago
careful ⊠Toucan Sam would be offended !
Actually, that would be: âOot-FrayâŠ. Oops-LayâŠâ ;-PPPFruit Loops â Toucan Sam

Thatâs a winning comment if Iâve ever seen one.
ACTIVIST1234 almost 10 years ago
1) Zebo appears NOT to be wearing a shirt. So how does he get black cuffs?2) Did Zebo hand out the paint bottles? If so, itâs sad Lu gets pink and Jock gets blueâ he must be an unimaginative sexist. However, he has a sense of humor in giving Emo sunshine yellow. Or perhaps they chose the colors themselves (comments are the same)

This âartâ teacher is so full of crap his breath stinks!

âŠit occurs to me thatâŠthe negative comments about ZeboâŠare a result of evoking unpleasant memories of former teachers of the commenterâŠ
RSH almost 10 years ago
funny how Zebo is talking about the Shulz cartoon in which Sally actually got a grade. Zebo just has his students destroy their work while he invents some lofty rationale for it, so that he doesnât have any grading work to do.
Goblinopolis almost 10 years ago
I believe any piece that makes you ask a question can be considered âart,â even if that question is, âWhy would anyone pay for this crap?â
