Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for April 07, 2015
Transcript:
Quill: "Isn't paper mache supposed to be like, strips?" Luann: "That's my shredded self-portraits. We had to--oh, never mind. Long story" Luann: "Ok, so I'll lie back, close my eyes and you spread the mache over my face. I won't be able to see or even talk. Ready?" Quill: "Never been readier" Luann: "How's this smile? Good?"

Luann forgot to wear a cover for her hair. Also, she needs to put petroleum jelly on her eyebrows and hair line. Also, if she is using a string glue, removing it might be like taking off a huge plaster.

Why does almost strip have a sexual innuendo
JayBluE over 9 years ago
Well, with that mask, I guess this week, there won’t be any arguments. Quill can finally talk, and she can’t get a word in….– And those straws are hanging out like the old TV antennas…or a “Fu Manchu”…– And if there were ever a time when those 3 Bean Burritos Quill had for lunch would be “good to go”, it would be now…

In case you didn’t see it from yesterday, thank you for the news. I know it’s still a wait, and iffy, but at least there’s a chance!

I don’t know how it’s going to end, but I see it ending with Luann being very, very embarrassed.

I can’t believe it. He’s bound to end up getting it in her hair.

Smile while you can, Luann. This may not go too well, and Luann may not be inclined to smile later on, when and if she gets the goop off safely….

OK, so this appears to be “innuendo” week. Today, in re: Lu’s inability to “stay quiet.” ;-)
I do have to agree with the previous comments in re: Lu not using drop cloths or preparing with grease to allow the mask to come off easily.
Hard to tell where the pay off is coming on this one, but we’ll see.

Luann will be running around the house screaming ..Quill chasing after her … and Frank with a ’what now" look on his face .
One would think that’d be a bit difficult with a paper mache mask on her face. :-Q ;-)

Sometimes people lose track of sanity and logic, and do silly stuff, especially when the hormones strike.

This is not gonna end good.

You made the point yesterday that you found the strip “upsetting” because of sexual innuendo, if you really were upset maybe you should try following a strip like “Nancy” or “Family Circus”. I try to just enjoy the strip for what it is.

Evans could do the jokes and give the characters common sense… but Luann has never had common sense. You’re thinking of her future sister in-law…
So yeah, I suspect that the mess they are getting into probably is a part of the whole thing. I don’t know if the no vaseline is deliberate, its not like we can see her eyebrows or anything, maybe she did put it on. Or maybe she plucks out all of her eyebrows anyway. (Don’t you still need it for eyelashes though? But she could have done it before.)
The hair thing is weirder, and I hope its just a cartooning issue and not a crisis to come. Whatever happens to the bed, I hope, is actually part of the end result, because I think it fits in with her character, and if nothing comes of it I will feel a little let down by the lack of follow through.
Seriously, can you not imagine teenagers making all these mistakes?? Let alone Luann? Give us time to see if the mistakes are recognised before criticising the cartoonist.

Right about now Berniece’s old hair band would come in handy.

Hmmmmm….. I just thought of another “innuendo…” one a bit more “personal” to Greg.
On viewing the last panel where Lu asks, “How’s the smile?… Good?” , could that be a reference to Sun, and the thrashing we gave Greg over the broadness of her smile??? 8-O ;-)))

So sad to hear actor James Best (Dukes Of Hazzard) passed away…..

I don’t know about paper mache but, it seems like a perfect recipe for disaster.

Of COURSE Luann and Quill forgot the bed covering, hair gel, and every other sensible precaution—they’re 18 years old. Common sense doesn’t normally become common until around age 25.

I feel somewhat like a slouch for saying this…. but I have to say that I am beginning to fall into the camp of folks who thinks the character of Quill is about exciting as a soggy piece of toast sitting in a mud puddle. I did not feel that way until recently. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++If Quill is going to remain a permanent character, I think he may need to have his own, individual story arc (not being Luann’s boyfriend or Gunther’s roomate) to let his character to be more developed. Think about it…. I personally tend to see Dez as more fleshed out as a character in her week or two story arc than Quill is at this point. Quill still seems pretty much a blank slate.

Oh oh. It is rather late in the day for Mordock to not have commented!!!! I wonder if he may have over indulged in his favorite roasted bean to such a degree that he was bleary eyed, but awake until about 8am….. and now he crashed?++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I hope not! Remember, Mordock, enjoy the ride…. ease back into the hobby! :)

Woah, Dude! I almost forgot to comment on Quill’s adoption of some of the California vernacular…… his “like” as in his “…to be. like, strips?” He sounds almost as if he were becoming a “Valley Girl” from the 80’s. :)

Oh, was that you guys? Thank god you managed to shame him into never using Sun again! Luckily diversity was avoided as well as the chance of doing something with new characters or any college related things at all, apparently.
I didn’t shame Greg into doing anything. I simply concurred with several people on the forum that Sun’s face was drawn in a manner consistent with a classic Euro/American stereotype of an Asian person… one that is offensive to many. All he had to do was adjust the grin, and everything would be alright. And that’s what he did. Sun has appeared a few times after that, with no issues. And who knows? We may not have seen the last of Sun yet. Nor can we say we’ve seen the last of Delta and/or Rosa. I hope all of them do get to return at some point. I think they’re all interesting. And, there is still diversity to be had… After all, we finally got to me Dez… I don’t think we’ve seen the last of her, either.

My thoughts, exactly. I found that to be offensive.

I’m really hoping there will be a scene where Luann walks into Zebo’s class with the mask (painted) on…..At some point Zebo needs to stop destroying.. (washing away… whatever) everything and let the students show what they have created
flowergirl19 over 9 years ago
Wow, and it’s such a great idea that Luann has, I hope it doesn’t get all ruined for her by not preparing properly for the project.

Did you notice that the ArcaMax site seems to have lost its mind? Since the change in format, many of the posts for the ‘toons are from 4 years ago, and the boards are closed for comments. There’s no hotlink to the webmaster, so I don’t know how anyone can draw their attention to this…
