As I suspected, this is the first that Luann has heard of Quillâs plan to spend summer in New York. He wouldnât dare tell her thatâs what he wants to do, unless he also asks whether she wants to come along.

We had to make life masks for our Theater class waaaaay back in High School. We used Plaster of Paris after coating our faces and hair lines with petroleum jelly so our skin wouldnât come off. Some of the masks came out okay as negatives some didnât⊠one girl actually cast a real good âpositiveâ life mask from the negative. Over all though, it was an uncomfortable exercise.

Um, thereâs a big difference between a plaster cast (as apparently shown here) and papier mĂąchĂ© (which they said they were going to do). And yes, putting the plaster on oneâs face directly is just asking for trouble.
Sisyphos almost 10 years ago
Clever of Quill to exploit this moment (or many moments) of Luannâs enforced silence to unfold his summer plans and invite her to join. But how long will that goop fester before Luann finally cleans up, successful art project or not?

Interesting that Quill hadnât even considered telling Luann that he had applied for the Intern Program in NY. If theyâre so close, wouldnât he include Luann in his thoughts even before he applied?

Papier mache takes hours, maybe days to dry if itâs of any thickness. The only way to really do it reasonably would be to make a plaster cast first (although these days thereâs much better alternatives to traditional plaster,) then use the papier mache for a positive.

â.. he doesnât like that she has no direction in lifeâŠ.â ^He certainly does seem to âinstinctivelyâ know that "kissing and huggingâ seems to pacify her, and that certain things are of importance to her. â But he hasnât indicated that heâs âfed upâ with that aspect of her. And it took a long time before he finally has been expressing an opposing viewpoint with her, at all. â But more so, one doesnât stop loving someone, because they seem to have no direction (Though maybe he possibly could feel about it the way Luâs parents expressed it, when they quipped that they hoped his âdirection findingâ ability could ârub off on herâ). It could however cause two people to either drift apart, or come to a crossroadsâŠ

I donât see how someone just does something like this without learning how to do it properly first. Especially a collegiate art student. Especially if itâs a girl who used to pore over fashion magazines for beauty tipsâI mean thatâs not great for your skin!

I would agree with your idea that Quill puts his âcareerâ first. At least to my manner of thinkingâŠ. at the ripe old age of 18 or 19âŠ. this is what BOTH of them should be doing. Sure, date and have fun, but first and foremost should be using your college time to figure out what you will wish to do and become in your career.
JayBluE almost 10 years ago
â⊠this could be just another âadventureâ âŠâ ^Youâre right- It could very well be just that! Greg has to have some way to âfillâ the summer monthsâŠ

Luann should just go to her art class with the glop still smeared over her face. That would demonstrate that she has indeed overcome her ego, so it will be judged a successful work of art.,

Papier MachĂ© takes forever to dry. When my father made life masks, heâd paint the face with negocoll and then cover it with quick-drying plaster.

âEven you thought this instance might be the end.â^Yes, âstorywiseâ . It was the one time (other than at Drama Camp) where Quill actually expressed any feelings other than the âlovey-doveyâones. And it was the second time they had that same argument/discussion. None of us knew where it was going. Thatâs why I said if youâre not careful . But it got âpatched upâ with a kiss (or also the promise of more âcuddle timeâ), as usual. Then she became happy again, and their discussion was over at that point. â And that arc culminated in the âvaudville schtickâ and the production meeting with Manezon (âimpromptuâ for her, scheduled for him), so it seemed like it really could have ended up as one of those ârough patchesâ real life couples go through, but tâwasnât⊠it was more like âthe passing rumbles of thunderâ. - He showed some annoyance, but that is different than being âfed upâ. It doesnât mean that he doesnât like her âdirectionless stateâ (to paraphrase), as you said, earlierâŠ

I do not know about your personal experience, RB2âŠ. but a lot of kids at the age of 18âŠ.while they TECHNICALLY do not have to do a damn thing their parents want them to do (you are correct)âŠ.. many kids will CHOOSE to listen to their parents and what they say will most assuredly influence their actions. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++So, in reference to the comments you had about Luann being 18âŠ..one person said âher parentâs may not let her do thisâ (because they could say that if she did, she would have to move out or some such thing)⊠or when another person said ââŠwill have a lot of conditionsâ (they could impose a plethora of conditions that affect her current living style (room, board, rent, possibly tuition)âŠ. or other similar things others said. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++What I am saying is that just because technically she can do whatever she damn well pleases, the presumed ârealityâ is that Luann will do most things in keeping with the manner in which she was raised. It is unlikely she will do something that is horrendously off the mark from what her parents would suggest for her. She has had the type of (fictional) upbringing that would lead her to most likely do things in keeping with her parentâs life philosophies.

Still got to wonder how Luann will afford the trip, most likely going to be mom and dad paying.

Qu, why didnât you put cute little horns on the drying mask?

Exactly
Argy.Bargy2 almost 10 years ago
Regardless of age, if a person is dependent on another person financially, that dependent person pretty much has to âtow the lineâ. As a lot of recent college grads who canât find work are discovering, while living in the basement of their family homeâŠ
ACTIVIST1234 almost 10 years ago
Oops, Qu, thatâs a double negative.Lu answers, âNoâ, as in "No, I did not not think that it would take this long to dry. Binary answers require simple questions!

âLuann is 18, how will they stop her?â*RB,1) âYou want to live in my house next semester, you abide by my rulesâ.2) âYou want us to pay your tuition, fees, and books next semester, you abide by our rules.â

College kids? Same with high schoolers now too, but again we seem to be expecting normalcy in a comic which veers away from it.

That may be the case here, but if Luann was a Latina, her parents would blow a gasket at the very thought of her leaving home. As for leaving with a guy, theyâd go nuclear, for in the Hispanic community, no ârespectableâ girl goes off with a guy sheâs not married to. Hell, in the most conservative Hispanic families, girls are not even allowed to date. Very narrow-minded and backwards, I know, but unfortunately, many people in this culture are still living in the 19th century. :(

> Sheâll be a sophomore next semester. Exactly how long is she going to live there anyway? All through college and then some? >This raises the question of what will happen after Luann completes her sophomore year. (Assuming that she does complete it, instead of repeating it over and over again fir the next decade or so, as she did with her high school years.) After she finishes her second year, sheâs finished at Pitt CC, with an Associateâs degree to show for it. Then what?
Will she go on to Moony Uni, or will she still be undecided about a course of study? Will she stop her college studies (at least temporarily) until she can make up her mind? If so, what will she do instead, using her Associateâs degree? Take over the Ann Eifell management slot at Weenie World? Whatever she decides to do then will surely have a bearing on whether she continues to live under Frank and Nancyâs roof.

That is normally reserved for stuff like âdonât mess up my houseâ or âcall when youâre out late so i donât worryâ. Itâs not âHa! Youâre living here so I get to control every aspect of your life!â.
But it does mean they get control of the one aspect of which she desperately wants controlâŠ
âOnly the Alpha pair of the household get to âprocreateâ in itâŠâ

SPOILER ALERT!!-That side of Quill that appeared when he decided to take pix of Luann struggling to climb a fence to get to prom? Itâs back.-Maybe they wonât break up because heâs off to New York. Maybe theyâll break up because Luann finally gets tired of being sneered at by the Bernices, Quills and Zebo-zeros of the worldâŠ-THAT would be new and interesting!

Not to mention her âtemporary improvementâ when her mother warned her about being âtoo clingyââŠ. â Then thereâs this⊠â (Because âabuse and diss your dadâ and âdonât appreciate what your parents have doneâ was getting pretty oldâŠ.) â (Notice she shows she respects and values her parents, and that she sits at the table and engages her father in conversation and soliciting advice, instead of going and acting as if sheâs got no concerns⊠or as if her dad canât be a good source of guidanceâŠ) â And then, thereâsâŠ..
