Transcript:
As the alien ship passes Earth on its quadrennial voyage, the waste bin is emptied, assuming it will burn up in the atmosphere... ...But it doesn't, and a cycle is reborn. The alien wast ferments and grows as a lifeform that incessantly gurgles toxic nonsense. Alien: Moo goo glompy gloop. The smelly beast continues to grow as it roams the country, leaving an ocean of useless sludge in its wake. People adjust to the constant stench and ignore it until the beast runs its course, then goes dormant. Danae: And that's how the Presidential election process really works, according to my dad... Teacher: Which starts the parent-teacher conference process...

Now we know where the Koch Brothers came from!

I don’t know. This explanation makes as much sense as the standard stuff that used to be included in civics texts. (As far as I can tell, since there are few national standard tests for civics classes the way there are for math and science classes, today’s public school kids may not even have civics classes…)

Truth IS stranger than fiction: good report Danae.

Why complain, teacher? Everyone knows this is true!

Which reminds me. Can’t we get Joe back on a news channel so that he can cover the presidential election next year? Not Fox – he’d be competing with Roland Hedley…

So it really is toxic, scary, useless and incomprehensible. That’s such a relief. I thought I was just misinformed.

I’m actually encouraged — Wiley takes a swipe at both parties in this one.

Yes, our democratic republic has a rather messy electoral process, but it is only because we make it so. it will take a couple of generations to undo the mess, but I don’t know if there is enough road left between us and the abyss to turn the car around.
Another well drawn and sharply written cartoon. This is why I come back again and again.

I see nothing wrong with this report..Do like the expressions on the pigs in panel 2, though. “Oh, is it that time again?”

“quadrennial” gives up the reveal in the first panel. Doh!

Love this…explains it all, in so few words, but lots of action!

My teachers would have moved me into the “creative writing” class and turned me loose. In addition my parents wouldn’t put up with teachers telling them what they can and can’t teach me.

Ahhhh, the birth of a CommiecRAT.-————————————————Come on – Conservatives love Communism. They sent all our jobs over to China, didn’t they? You know, China? The biggest, richest Communist country on Earth?

Seems straight forward. What is the teacher’s problem? Can’t imagine what a ’conference would be needed.
It is annoying how some of those prospective candidates seem to neglect cleaning up after themselves.

who needs a civics class or the “news” media when Wiley says it all in six panels or less.

“both parties”? they are 2 sides of the same coin……….I think the Koch brothers own it.

It appears that the more toxic the sludge the more it is believed. What is toxic sludge to one group tends to be truth to another. The erosion of critical analysis and the proliferation of toxic sludge through the internet would make Goebbels drool with jealousy.Have fun with that folks.

Everyone do yourselves a favor and google Lincoln’s speech about a house divided. Yes, he was speaking about slavery, but put in todays perspective it’s still relevant. Political idolatry is rampant and there’s no rational discussion any more. It’s beyond sad what’s going on in this nation. Beyond sad.

Maybe the opening box should read: As the alien ship “passes” over Earth… (Or “moves” over Earth.)

Sounds lie a mid 1950’s offering in black and white from Republic Pictures. They were scary in their day, too.

Hmm, “HighPriestMikhal”, I graduated 53 years ago, and civics classes were mandatory curricula. Maybe that all pursuit of accurate information, called “knowledge”, is now “elective” may be the problem?
Gokie5 over 9 years ago
Let’s see – I started my Civics course about sixty-six years ago during my last year in junior high school. It was mandatory, and it taught us how the government was supposed to work, not how it did work. I found about that on my own, later.

Since when does Danae listen to her Dad ?

I suspect that the purpose of the parent-teacher conference will be to criticize Joe, not Danae. He’s going to be a bit put off at Danae for blaming her take on politics on him.

I liked the “Calvin & Hobbes” look to this strip. It definitely had a “Spaceman Spiff” kind of look. Hopefully Watterson approves.
