Abbott is trying to bring transparency (“facilitat[ing] communication and to make people comfortable and informed about what’s going on”)**, which can only be a good thing. Better people get their news from the governor’s office than from Alex Jones. If the kooks are making wild claims that have the potential to cause serious unrest (case in point: 9/11 trutherism), then the kooks shouldn’t go unchallenged – better communication between the state and DoD makes challenging them easier.

With the Bush family and the Clinton family, succession is the problem: a perceived belief on their part that they should be a ruling family. With Texas it’s a secession problem:it sees itself as independent of the rest of the US and perhaps would make many happy by leaving.

to correct a misconception. Abbot charged the State Guard not the National Guard to observe. The State Guard are a bunch of old men playing army with outdated equipment. They provide labor during natural disasters and ceremonial duties during state events. The National Guard is trained in real military tactics. The State Guard is probably eating this up as they will get to head to the military surplus store and get new equipment and play dress up. Rest of country misunderstands the difference. As a forth generation Texan I can assure you that I don’t go around bragging about being a Texan anymore. We have an election system in place that has effectively disenfranchised most of the electorate. Fewer than 1/4 of eligible voters now decide statewide elections. One of the worst election records in the country.

The most ludicrous thing about the Jade Helm paranoia is that the war game scenarios has China invading Texas. Seriously, the rest of the US has been trying to give Texas away but nobody wants crazy, not even China.

Hopefully, next year here in NC, we will kick all these ritches out and replace them with the semi-sane again. When you can’t win fairly, that is not a sign to start cheating. Right wing ideology has cost us a BILLION dollars in medicaid money over 2 years. Partying too hard on the lobbyists’ money etc. is nothing compared to cheating the citizens out of their rights to vote. I know I’m going to be ferrying anyone who needs a ride to register, or to vote! Suggest everyone do the same! For many, the civil rights movement started right here at a lunch counter in a Woolworths in Greensboro.

Liberals flip out over plenty of stuff: G.W. Bush is going to invade Iran, Republicans are using the word “targeting” when they talk about Democratic politicians they want to campaign against, oil companies are concealing technology that would make electric cars viable or make gas cars far more efficient, GMOs are harmful, the list goes on…

Nutty conspiracy theories are not limited to the right wing.

And, btw, the Republicans had better hope that they don’t win their Supreme Ct. case. A bunch of them are already praying for their own defeat. O’care has become popular all of a sudden, after 15,000,000 or so now have insurance for the first time ever. Of course, the latest from Florida is the legislature voting to make it harder for poor folks to get insured, while the “solons” themselves get ever sweeter health deals. America! What a country!

I wish Texas could secede. They would no longer be able to screw up our textbooks, send us retarded Presidents or scare us with their gross stupidity. Can we do a Constitutional amendment just to get rid of them? We could build that fence they’ve been wanting and close them off to protect ourselves. They would be a thrd world, poverty stricken nation within a year.Gosh, what a great thought.

If the Texas gov had the sense that God gave a radish, he would have made the following speech quite some time ago: “No, these routine military exercises will not lead to the Feds invading, nor imposing martial law, nor disarming people, nor putting them in tunnels under Wal-Marts (or Narnia or Oz). In OTHER news: No, we did not do 9/11 to ourselves. No, Obama was not secretly born in Kenya (or Narnia or Oz). No, he is not secretly a Muslim. No, we did not fake the moon landings. No, we are not currently faking the international space station. No, Bigfoot is not currently the mission commander of the international space station. Thank you.” With such a stirring speech, I can imagine that he might very well have convinced seven (or even eight!) lunatics to come back to reality.

So as a taxpayer in Texas I am appalled that this kind of nonsense can be funded by the state government while the cuts that were made to public education in 2008 have yet to be restored. If secession ever happens, Texas will slowly but surely become a third world country because the paranoia would not cease just because the Fed is out of the picture. The loonies would have to start developing new idiotic conspiracy theories about whoever is in power in the new Nation of Texas. It would probably end up looking a lot like Syria.

Actually, Richard S. Russell, the question that was settled, was answered incorrectly. I am not in favor of any state succeeding, but apparently, Lincoln and the North failed to apply the Constitution when saying that no State has the right to leave once admitted. There is nothing in the Constitution to forbid it, and, the Declaration of Independence states that no man, who can no longer tolerate the government he lives under, is under any obligation to do so.

I am not sure if Texas will succeed nor secede. Maybe if they get rid of Abbott, they will succeed. We have brownback in Kansas but no one talks about secession. We probably won’t be sucessful with the policies of brownback, however, I would say…

My brother has lived in Texas for about 30 years, and I know there are good people there. However, this Jade Helm 15 debacle IS loony. There have been war games in Texas for many many years. The federal government does – and did communicate with the governor (as well as the governors of the other states in which the massive exercise would take place). No other governor saw the need to call up their state guards – no, Texas is not the only state with a state guard. There was no valid reason whatsoever other than to proclaim that they Don’t trust the government. Really and truly, what the loudest boors in Texas repeatedly declare is that they hate the United States. It’s a minority, sure, but I’d lay odds that it’s a bigger minority than in any other state.

The South still doesn’t think so. Especially every time you hear them tout nonsense about State’s Rights. That issue was supposed to be SETTLED in that same war. End results were that the Feds allowed the former Confederate States to impose Jim Crow laws and other Civil Rights violations.
