There’s an old joke about a farmer who bred chickens with four legs so that the whole family could have drumsticks. When asked how they taste, he said, “Don’t know; I’ve never been able to catch one.”

Probably a fairly accurate assessment of the current state of affairs. So against my best interest I’ll vote for it!!!!

If GMOs are such a wonderful and harmless (BTW, there is a lot of research which indicates they aren’t) thing then why don’t the manufacturers want us to know what foods they are in?

IF it isn’t label then protest that company by not buying it.

Pass the law and put the label on everything because every single food you buy in the store is genetically modified to make it larger, sweeter, easier to pick… It’s what human beings have been doing for 10,000 years.

I have never missed an election and I have even worked in a polling place. I guess, I was just lucky.

My IQ was last measured at 147. Does that my vote should count about half again as much as the average person? I doubt that the average person would agree to that. So why are dumb people less important than smarter ones?

What I love is the blatant hypocrisy of the GMO companies and their servants in Congress. They pledge undying, religion-level allegiance to the “Free Market,” but when it comes to giving the customer the information he wants to help make his purchase decision, they’re all about secrecy. “Free” apparently means “you’re free to buy what we tell you to buy. Now shut up and open that wallet!”

sorry pastis for today the comments have proved more interesting than the strip, though i find the strip amusing – however to your credit – the interest in the responses lie in the ‘tone’ and insinuated ‘name-calling’ of the groups represented in the comments and their ‘take’ on the meaning of the strip.you should collaborate with a psychologists/sociologist and write a book on the responsive comments your strips get and what it says about humans in general. it might be a best seller. i know it would interest many if not all who read and comment.

unfortunately, the problem isn’t pig. often these referendum’s are worded confusingly, so that it’s easy to wind up voting for the opposite of what you wanted. sometimes, this is even done on purpose. the politicians have managed to set it up. sure, we’ll have a vote on this. we’ll just phrase this to get the vote we want.

As one who somehow is both stupid and smart enough to know it, Pig single-trotterly (pigs don’t have “hands,” you know…) capsizes the Dunning-Kruger Effect hypothesis.

Today we voted down a tax increase to pay for improved transit. The “yes” side spent seven million to convince us they wouldn’t waste our money. (The no side spent $40,000) You say the voters are too stupid for democracy?

hello. mostly they’re just speeding up the rate of tinkering that’s gone on for thousands of years on every farm on the planet. try to retain a firm grip on the issue at hand. if possible.

It’s true that companies – primarily Monsanto – have created some cross-species organisms. Of those, very few have made it to market and the majority of their products are still manipulated within the species. And while there should be some genuine concern about their long-term effects, ignorance has led to such hysteria among some people that it’s only natural the producers don’t want a label scaring off customers. And really, it seems much more beneficial for food manufacturers to do it the other way. “Non-GMO” labels typically some with a significantly higher price tag. Going back to the GMO producers, they didn’t settle for simply lobbying against labeling laws. Monsanto actually responded to the anxiety by spinning off a new company: Seminis crossbreeds numerous genotypes all at once, then uses mass-sequencing to test seeds for desired traits before they even plant them. The result: old-fashioned genetic modification is now taking place thousands of times faster than out on the farm. By current standards, these would be just as immune from GMO labeling laws as any heirloom variety.

No worries Pig, that initiative was far too stupid for democracy.
