Rat: I got a new job. Goat: Doing what? Blues Singer: I woke up this mornin' with the bright sun and listen, girl, I ain't missed you none... Rat: 'Ain't' is not correct english, and you've used a double negative, so let's try, 'I haven't missed you an inordinate amount.' Goat: You correct the blues? Rat: Yes. What rhymes with 'inordinate'?

Robert Klein did a spectacularly funny bit as a blues singer. A quick Yoo Toob search yielded nothing.Years ago, when they used to advertise the Yellow Pages itself, there was an ad that featured “Lonesome Dave’s School for the Blues.” Lonesome Dave demonstrated his art by singing, all in major keys, such classics as “I’ve been workin’ at the Burger Barn dusk to dawn. I’ve been workin’ at the Burger Barn long, long, long” and my favorite “I blew my SAT, scored 473. No more scholarship for me.”

I’m reminded of an interview McCartney gave where he described his dad’s reaction to a preview of the song “She Loves You.” Dad liked the song, but not the hook “yeah, yeah, yeah.” He took it as an Americanism creeping into the Queen’s English. He asked, “Can’t you sing ‘yes, yes, yes’?” “No,” replied Paul.

“Ain’t” actually started out as a contraction of “am not”, but at some point fell out of favor as proper grammar.
