Rick: So where are the best grates, Alice? Alice: Well, the safest is #1, Ricky, It's right in front of the D.C. police headquarters. It's dry heat, too, not steam. Rick: Steam heat's a problem? Alice: You kidding? It'll soak you through in two minutes... hey! Why are you writing this down? Rick: Um... Alice, I've explained it to you three times. I'm writing a piece on the homeless. Alice: And you want to know the whole trashy story of how I ended up like this! Rick; Well, no, not if... Alice: It all started at my debutante party...

I always wondered how she went from that to the street-smart, world-weary homeless person she is in the later strips. It’s such a huge disconnect from her original characterization.

It’s been around longer than that. My grandfather hoboed through 1930-1933.

Has anyone ever noticed that these over thirty year old strips aren’t in any way dated? They are as fresh as if they were written yesterday.

Yes it is. It’s not a 31 year old U.S. problem though. The homeless have been around since civilization began

For a large group of homeless people and the mass killings by mentally ill people we have experienced starting with Sandy Hook. You can thank the knee jerk idiots who closed down ALL the asylums instead of reforming them and made it next to impossible to commit a person against his or her will.

Well,I wouldn’t want to be committed against my will and lots of folks ( mistakenly, of course) think I’m crazy.

Is this before or after Duke was homeless and Alice gave him money to finance the DeLorean movie?
