Wait, the cable snapped? But for that to happen, this story would have to be taking place in a Universe where the laws of physics occasionally applied.

In the second panel on the second row, the plane is clearly held up by a pole, not a cable. Since Blank is already off the plane, there aren’t “men” on the plane, just a man. Also, if the support for the plane was so nearly maxed out by the weight of the plane that a couple of people made that much difference then the genius who picked the support should be up on manslaughter charges.

When the airplane hits the floor, will the sound and impact arouse Liz, Sam, and the rest of the police force… or will they remain in their seats waiting for the show to resume as Tracy wanders back to the stage?
The panel with the snapping cable: what is that weird splash of color behind it? At first I thought it was a shot of a stent breaking inside someone’s heart.
Man….that must be some really cheap cable to snap like that.
But on the plus side we get the pleasure of seeing Anja Nu get a major overhaul the hard way…..and seeing how Tracy escapes serious injury himself.
It would also be nice to see if the crash of that dive bomber to the floor will actually make someone - hell, ANYONE - finally try to figure out what the BLEEP is going on around there……
Where once it was with elation
Now it is with trepidation
That I approach each days strip
Knowing the writer has lost his grip
From lofty heights to loathsome lows
Its state has now become comatose
The stories no longer make any sense
In fact they have become to be exceedingly dense
The silly names, the atrocious puns
Everyone but Tracy has a gun
He runs around like a coward
Our respect for him has been soured
The police force is more inept than not
You get more response from a Keystone Kop
Now but a shadow of itself
It’s time to be put on the shelf
The time of glory is in the past
All we see now is just half-assed
The cheering has long faded away
Tracy has had his day
So drive the stake deep and hard
Shovel on the dirt by the yard
Bury him with his face down
A proper ending for this clown.

Thank you, Smith! You now hold the distinction of being my new blog’s very first follower!
I’m fairly well-versed in this Internet stuff, and I don’t even fully grasp the whole “follower” concept. But I do know it makes a blog look good if it has some!
Figured it out. When someone clicks on my friend avatar, they can leave me a message. When go to the blog there will be a message notice waiting for me. If I want the message it will send the message to my gmail address and send my gmail address to the message sender. One has to have a yahoo, twitter, or gmail account to set up a friend link, or so it seems.
Smith, I honestly don’t know the answer to that one either! The good news is that this should also make it possible for you to “follow” Teresa’s Frog Blog.
I haven’t seen it, but—- the Stuka is probably supported by more than one cable, and further, when they put it up there they figured in a generous safety margin. Engineers seem to like a six-to-one ratio when they figure out the capacities of cables to the weight they have to carry. I doubt that Tracy and the Blank added up to five extra Stukas in their combined weight. Sorry, Locher, no cigar this time.
A little bit of research goes a long way. I had to trace it down some, but— the Stuka at the Science Museum in Chicago is supported by three cables. Two attach just forward of the canopy, the third attaches at the vertical stabilizer to hold the plane at a rather impressive “dive” angle.
So, instead of running away in terror only to be saved in the end by Tess or Sam, Tracy runs away in terror only to be saved by a snapped cable. That’s great. None of the cops in this arc did one single effective thing. How sad.
The damaged canopy is a flashback to just after it had been damaged and before Tracy repaired it. So that is perfectly consistent. Let’s give credit where credit is due.
Sorry, folks, I can’t quite break away from the cable question. Locher left himself wide open with that one.
First, if only one cable was supporting the plane, then even a dim bulb like Tracy has been showing himself to be would have to realize that hiding in the plane was a non-starter. Jumping from where ever he had to jump from onto the aircraft would cause it to swing wildly, instantly tipping off his enemy about where he was hiding.
Second, if only one cable was used it would have been sized to hold several times the aircraft’s weight. Engineers design this stuff with generous safety margins to eliminate any chance of the cable breaking while people are in and around the suspended item. If this cable broke, I would suspect bullet damage when Anja shot The Blank. Even then, it would probably take several direct hits to do it and somehow Anja doesn’t seem to me to be that great a marksperson. Maybe an unlucky swing when The Blank was smashing the canopy??? He might have been so interested in killing the cop he never notices nicking the cable. I suppose that’s possible.
Oh come on, it’s all perfectly plausible. After shooting the cable Anja Nu sprinted to get under the plane – why? Because she can’t face the shame of being unable to explain any of her actions from beginning to end of this adventure. It was the only way out!

Locher has the plane hanging by the antenna in all of his previous “photos”. When a cable breaks and the antenna didn’t, I’d say that German engineering speaks for itself!
Secondly, why didn’t Locher display the Nazi insignia? For fear of upsetting the Nazi’s? They did lose, you know!
Hey TRACY fans! Jump over to the Tracy Tribute site www.plainclothescomics.com and enjoy lots of fun facts and fiction about our hero. Yeah - try THAT in real life, Locher, what with reaction times and all that.

All he has to do is make sure he lands on his head.
So, all this time I thought that cable was the Stuka”s radio antenna, which is where it normally would be on this airplane. Now I find that it’s a single cable, attached to the glass canopy, holding the entire aircraft airborne and steady? Wow, was I mistaken.
Dick Tracy didn’t do any detective work.
The grandson of a previous villain tried to kill Tracy. Said grandson is a grown man, but Tracy doesn’t seem any older.
Tracy was saved not by any action of his own or of any of his allies, but by a woman who is herself trying to kill Tracy, because he was prioritizing his own life over a play.
Tracy was then saved from this woman by dumb luck and impossible physics (she’d have to be pretty directly under the plane to get crushed by it, an angle she wouldn’t be shooting at Tracy and the Blank from).

All of a sudden the cable snaps and the plane falls, spoiling Anja Nu’s shot. How can this be?
Simple. Deus ex machina failure.
shirttailslim over 14 years ago
My BIG question, which nobody else seems to have realized yet: Anga Nu was shooying up at an angle. WHY IS THE PLANE FALLING ON HER???
She is shooting from the left reat. Cable breaks and plane falls straight down. And where is DT who was last seen on that wing?
Mayby the air conditioning came on with a strong gust and blew the planr back on her?
I can hardly wait to see how this is resolved.
