Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson for October 19, 2015
Transcript:
Arlo: They play one commercial, then a different one, then the first one again, in the same break! Arlo: That is so irritating! Janis: They don't care if they irritate you, as long as you remember their name! Arlo: Believe me, I'm tempted to write it down!

This is why they make DVR’s or TIVO. You can fast-forward through the commercial nonsense.

Jimmy, are you reading my mind? I had this same conversation with my wife yesterday. And Janis is right. I’ll remember their name but not in a positive light. Most likely I remember and associate them with things like getting a splinter or being pricked by a thorn.

My memory is so shot, I really don’t have this problem.

During commercials I tend to “zone out”. I let my mind wander and try not to pay attention to the noise commercials produce.Ten minutes of commercials….often repetitive….and I can’t tell which was the last one that was on.

Hello mute button – funny how it comes on at those repetitive ambulance chasers’ ads.

Reminds me of this SNL sketch: http://snltranscripts.jt.org/86/86qsoldoutgold.phtml
Sadly, NBC has blocked it from YouTube, so I can’t post a link to the video.

I will never buy a Buick because of their horrible and annoying ads. Nobody has ever called a pitcher a Rembrandt. Same goes for Lincoln thanks to the Matthew McConaughey ads.

They waste their money so they can charge you more….

The most annoying commercials on TV are for Directv and have been for several years.

If a commercial annoys me, or is repeated to often, I will refuse to buy the product. I also have a few stores t will not shop at. They do not need to be “in your face”. Also if something becomes way to popular, I won’t buy into that. On the other hand…I’m on an iPad. PFFFTTT

ARLOSDADWhat do you mean “their money”. Ads are a tax write-off. We have to make up the taxes they don’t pay, so they are wasting our money as well as time and composure.

I disagree. The most annoying commercials are the overly-long pharmaceutical ones that spend 60% of their time describing how their product will kill you. But what makes them really annoying is that they are trying to sell you something that you probably don’t need and can’t use. You might be a buyer/user of toothpaste, floor cleaners, cars, etc., but most likely the prescription remedy commercials are just a waste of your time.

Some of the football commercials are better than the Supperbowl commercials. Oops, Superbowl commercials aren’t any good anyway.

If the commercial breaks go on too long I’ll turn off the program or even the TV. “THERE! How does that help sell your soap flakes?”

It brought my mind to wonder HOW the hell The Hysteria /Geographic/Science/Travel/et al Channels manage to time their commercials so that ‘channel-hopping’ is near-impossible to escape ‘commercial breaks’.. I tried to watch TNG last night re “the finding of the Billy The Kid picture” and it was REMARKABLE how they managed to pack 53 minutes of content into a two-hour time frame ! (yeah, I found my ol’ stop-watch from the recording studio days, and find that a lot can be done in other parts of the house while the commercials drone on.)

Bill SpencerGo back and read my comment more carefully. The money Big Pharma spends on ads for drugs you are not permitted to buy without a doctor’s permission is to inflate the cost of drugs and thus their profits. The basic research for these is generally done by the government anyway, their research is mostly at the manufacturing and promotion end of the chain.
