Robin: Have you ever been tempted?
Janis: Oh, sure!
Janis: I worked for a long time with a guy named Vince. There was a lot of chemistry there!
Robin: Did you act on it?
Janis: No, he was transferred.
Janis: I meant, 'No! Then he was transferred!'

I’d say, “Nice save, Janis!”, but there is no way to save that one….You can’t unsay some things…..

Would she have acted if he hadn’t been transferred or did it just come out wrong?

Janis needs to be careful what she says, if Robin is unhappy in her marriage, she just might use that tidbit against Janis to try and drive a wedge between she and Arlo

According to JJ’s blog, Vince was a regular guest of the strip in the spring of 1993. Unfortunately, the archives here at GoComics only go back to May of 1994. I think these three strips taken from the blog give us a good idea of Janis and Vince’s relationship:

Ever wonder what the spouse did before you met and when you were not looking…?

There was also an arc where Arlo realized he’d gotten fond of a co-worker…and waxed philosophical about how different his life might have been. Wonderful, complex stuff for a newspaper comic. Thanks, Jimmy!

Interesting layers, indeed. The ladies must’ve had a full measure of “social lubricant”: They’re sitting on the floor in front of the couch. Nice mark of real comfortable friendship there.

Good investigative reporting, Strod! I thought the name Vince sounded familiar.
