An international flair, for sure! Tracy knows them all, FBI Special Agent Trailer, USA; Inspector Ivanon [sic], Russia; and Inspector Wunbrow, Cuba. How this distinctive assembly of professional friends of Tracy will play out a rôle in the case of Specs and Spicy is yet to be seen, but it should be quite interesting….
Who is this inspector Ivanov? When did he appear? And how did Wunbrow remain in place after Castro’s revolution? I’d have loved to see Supt Whitehall English friend of Tracy on Granite Island!
Good morning to ✯✯ Vista Bill Raley and Comet ✯✯ and all Tracy fans.We have detectives from Cuba, Russia and the USA. This upcoming story could have a Cold War-era espionage/spy novel tone to it.
Yesterday we were introduced two new characters: Specs and Spicy (the red turtleneck and green eyes suit her: more quality work from the gocomics colorist). Today we have three detectives. Trailer and Wunbrow will be familiar to many fans, but I can’t say I recall Ivanon (sic). An intriguing start to this story. If wise, the detectives flew into Midway, which is a far more civilized introduction to Tracyville than the notorious O’Hare Airport. Classic renderings of Trailer and Wunbrow further whet my appetite for this new tale of crime and punishment. Miss Egghead forgot to duck!
Thanks to cpalmeresq, Gweedo, Vista Bill, Chris Sherlock, Jonathan K. (I’m pleased you picked up on the EC reference) and Night-Gaunt49 for the kind words. Very much appreciated!
@Night-Gaunt49said: “Or a no war tone to it, international cooperation.”That’s a possibility, too, now that relations between the US and Cuba are improving.
So good to see Wunbrow again. As to how he survived the murderous Castro regime, even blood thirsty dictators need good cops. Pretty much how Arkady Renko survived in Russia all these years.
Inspector Porfiry Ivanov was originally called “Ivanova,” until someone realized that’s the feminine form of that surname. The world has changed a LOT since these two were introduced.

Looks like some impressive detectives are gathering for a lawman’s convention….

Realize now that Inspector Ivanov has appeared before. At first, his face looked like a mask. (Almost thought it was a Johnny Scorn lookalike!)

Seeing those international versions of Dick Tracey reminds me of the Batmen of All Nations.

An inspector from Castro’s “policia” doesn’t bode well. Especially, for any prisoners he happens across.

I’m also reminded of an old Bob Hope special, where a group of 70’s-era gimmick detectives teamed up.

Too bad Mike can’t use Joe Jitsu or Manuel “Go-Go” Gomezdue due rights issues – “realistic” less stereotypical versions would fit right in.

Shouldn’t that quote in panel 2 be attributed to Rex Stout? He created Nero Wolf after all, along with every word that came out of his mouth.

Three Detectives at the airport have occasion to detect
Each from a different country yet a mutual respect.
Deduction and fact-gathering, sticking forth one’s beak
Into the dirty dealings of the criminals you seek.
All assembled here in Tracytown, the cause a mystery
Each Inspector with Dick Tracy has a unique history.
Who might probe and who might poke, turn over every stone
Until charges are levied, foul transgressions are atoned.
Three Detectives at the airport known to disturb and question
To disrupt the violent criminals, wreak havoc on digestion.
Three Detectives at the airport: Ivanon, Trailer, Wunbrow
Seek answers to the questions: Who, why, when, where, what and how.
Watching the Detectives, see the wheels commence to spin
