Sorry to see this end. How about showing the 1920’s?

Obviously, there is enough vintage comics material to supply this feature until the end of time. The only reason that I can imagine for ending it is that it can’t be operated and make a profit. This is not despicable venality at work; it is simple survival economics. But wouldn’t it be nice if “Origins” could be endowed by some benefactor, or taken over by an institution — The Billy Ireland Library, or the Smithsonian.

I am sad to see this feature go. But very grateful for it having existed.

Gotta say, as someone who has read comics all his life, this has been a fascinating bit of history! Ah well, it’s just lines on paper, folks …

I agree wholeheartedly. This is a national treasure that should be continued by the National Endowment for the Arts. Thank you all so much for returning the comics of my childhood.

Two and a half years, really? Time DOES fly when we’re having fun, I guess. It’s been fascinating, seriously.

I am surprised at the number of readers who apparently had never seen, or even heard of, the great old comics and the huge Sunday pages. I have been seeking them out, how ever I could find them, since the late 1950s, starting when I was about nine years old. It never occurred to me that other comics fans had been living in a world where, for them, comics started with superheroes. To me (for some reason) the old ones are REAL comics, and most of the rest are some diminished and stunted offshoot. I have an irrational love for The Funnies. Thank goodness for all the reprint books lately. I wish this feature would not stop!

Thank you for the months of entertainment. Have enjoyed this look into the history of our comics. Please come back with more when you can.

I’ve enjoyed some strips more than others, but there wasn’t a day when I turned to this without a sense of keen anticipation to see another hidden treasure brought to light. Thanks for presenting all these, and I hope if you start doing it again that I’ll get wind of it and be able to catch that gig as well.

It looks like the last line of the caption was supposed to mention a second book title (in addition to the misspelled “Forgoten Fantasy”), perhaps a broken italic token swallowed the name. Even if this feature has ended, would it be possible to correct the caption, or perhaps post the second title here in the comments?

I was unaware this series was ending! I am only now getting caught up on reading my favorite comics, and was truly saddened to see this series coming to an end.

Thank you SO much for presenting these beautiful, vintage comic strips in this format! It has been great to see so much history, so much beautiful art, and to realize how it was achieved with the technology available in those years.

The writers, artists, colorists, engravers, printers, editors, publishers, etc. are to be commended, as are the fine folks who collected, scanned, and processed these strips for us to enjoy in the 21st Century.

still taking up space folk…move on

I’m curious how this site makes money off strips that haven’t been updated in years.

I’d read these if the print wasn’t so small.

Why is this still taking up space. Go comics doesn’t have anything resembling an editor?

Since these are old strips anyway, the fact that they’re not adding to them any more is less relevant. If you didn’t read this strip while it was “live”, then just hit the random button every time you come here, and see something that’s new to you.

About the small print, if you’re reading this on a phone, then I can’t help you, but on a 20 inch monitor I can expand most of these to legibility.

I was just sitting here thinking about how would I blow this up so I could read it. Have you noticed only oldsters like me would read these and they are too small for us.

You can see the great care taken with the drawings. So much better than now.

Reminds me of the tweenie weenies comic strip which ran on Sundays in the New York Daily News back in the 1960’s.
