Until now, Bernice has been very respectful of Dez (unlike her treatment of Luann). So it seems out of character for Bernice to scoff at Dez’s card reading. Rather than assuming that the leg of the table collapsed because of an action taken by Luann, I’d prefer to look at this as ‘instant karma’ from the universe at large…

Of course unexpected involving Bernice. TIffany and Piro, Rosa (I keep thinking that will happen), something totally out of left field? Who knows? Oh the anticipation. The drama. Not boring contrary to some.

Having dealt with a few significant losses in my own life recently – my first thought was “surely Greg isn’t going to kill Bernice off?” But her eye is open, right? It’s a table leg failing that causes Bernice to collapse, not vice versa, right? More practically, they wouldn’t start such a major plot twist on the Sunday strip, right?

Thinking a bit more, the cards HAVE led to at least one plot theme before, so maybe again?Bernie has a complicated situation. She continues to try to live by the book, rather than living with observation and realism while noting where the rules and book-learning can be usefully applied. I doubt she is comfy with what she is doing, but have not seen an indication that she yet has any idea how to constructively explore a better path. Luckily, there have not been indications of escapism, though that can be a risk. I have seen in happen, as i suspect have others. If someone continually tries to pound a square peg into a round hole something just has to give. Then again, Bernie might just be up past her bedtime, and this coukd be a stand-alone. Who knows? I don’t.

You think worse of Bernice than I do. Of course, that is why i can worry for that character. Books get me involved that way, too, but the character development has to be tight.

Well created characters are not so two dimensional, neither as characters in comments nor as characters in comments. There is nothing wrong with being complex, and often a lot right with it. The Bernice character has much room to surprise on this score. I just hope it does not become from biochemical escapism eventually due to the frustrations of trying to be what no person can.

Sigh, can you tell that i have had a headache from my eye for two days? Not anything to worry about, just something which undermines my clarity some. Hey, i get to be three dimensional, too. Apologies for poor wording but i certainly hope that my well meant words have good results.

Not only does the table collapse (instant karma), but those yucky-looking green vegan (?) slurpies spill on Bernice, as does the bowl of whatever those things are—chickpeas? ( I don’t think it’s popcorn from Dez….)Never start calling the Destiny Deck bog(us), Bernie, unless you want to tempt Fate!

As a former nurse (though not accustomed to examining comic characters, LOL!) I am worried about Bernice. Her body position, the sudden way she stopped talking, and her facial expression make me think she has something wrong and has suddenly passed out. I hope I’m wrong….

-What she was doing was snarking Luann’s love sick rants that never stopped. It got so bad that Bernice let her have it and walked out. Luann was being so selfish and didn’t care what Bernice was feeling

Someone who is ‘love sick’ as you describe it is kind of in a state that is close to mental illness. They aren’t being selfish. They are so absorbed in a delusion that they have no concept of reality.

Bernice claims to aspire to be a counselor, but will encounter many people who are completely absorbed by delusions such as love sickness, or persecution complexes or the like. If Bernice’s response to that kind of thing is sarcasm, she has chosen the wrong profession.
