@eclectic-1No it’s not. lol It’s Büstenhalter or short BH. But we do have some nice long words like “Nahrungsmittelunverträglichkeit” (food intolerance) or “Löschwassereinspeisung” (fire water supply(?)).
The steamship company in Vienna is called Donau Dampfschiff Gesellschaft. Its ships have captains, who rest in cabins. The cabins are fitted with lights that can be switched off. The switches are located in sockets which would thus be called Donaudampfschiffgesellschaftskapitänskajütenlichtschalterbuchse (63 letters). I challenge you to do better!
I like reading the instructions that come with things. English is two inches of type. German and inch and a half. French three inches. Spanish the next three pages.
Just to be technical: Despite their skill at building compound words, German is an inflected language, meaning words are built from a stem plus an optional suffix plus an optional ending, as in English SING-ER-S. Agglutinative languages build words from a stem plus usually multiple affixes, as in Turkish or Korean.
