I do hope they’re not seriously thinking of bunking with TJ to save money! And if they are, I hope Shannon’s wish list, unrealistic as it might be, has knocked some sense into them!

Two firemen have to share a place with TJ? Is this L.A. or N.Y.?
Chrisdiaz801 over 8 years ago
Brad and Toni will never grow up, and that is good(especially if you’re talking to a kid.)
Caldonia over 8 years ago
Wait. Have these two even thought about where they’re going to live after they’re married?

I’d rather see Brad and Toni for awhile to be honest.

WHO Was the MORON that came Up with THAT Idea???
Was it YOU Brad?!!?
Flash Gordon over 8 years ago
In the long run it may cost much more in legal fees living withthat pending catastrophe known as TJ. Just have TJ leave and not ever come back.

WHAT? Move in with TJ? Make TJ move out & get an apartment – in another state! On another note – Happy Easter!

An entire strip where Shannon is smiling, she is so much happier when she is away from her jack@$$ Daddy! Strange, I figured they would just kick TJ out and take over the house for themselves!

Shannon is my fave character, I always knew that she wasn’t really a bad girl, and that she just needed a loving family… I really hope that Jonah leaves her to Brad and Toni for good!
SukieCrandall Premium Member over 8 years ago
I suspect that Jonah will want them to have Shannon as a legal ward (maybe while he goes away to make spaghetti westerns or a more current equivalent someplace in the world), but that Shannon’s mother who left them will reappear. (Perhaps she already is nearby…)

I think that some people have unresolved issues about TJ. He might be. for those old enough to remember Leave it to Beaver, a bit of Eddie Haskell, a bit of a rogue, but he is Brad’s oldest and closest and most loyal friend. I mean they even argue, fight, and always get back together, and he has actually been more good for Brad, and Toni I would argue, than anything bad. He has quite a back story, the total details we have not been provided, but one thing is clear, which is that his character has had to learn to fend for himself very early in his life. Hence the house for example, and all the schemes. As for Brad and Toni they are delightful, and I am really looking forward to the nuptials, although I am sure there will be all kinds of drama, and converging story lines that will intersect—or not—before we get to them. Shannon is the voice of pure innocence as usual, and her character gets to say things about them, and people she encounters, like the memorable one with Ann Eiffel, that the older characters might not say. She is a good b.s. barometer. One more thing: millinnials need to save money, and often they do, and hold off on having a family until they feel more secure. Now neither of them have school loans to pay back, as far as the story is written, but their decision to hold of having kids and bunk with TJ to save money (he would cook some great food) falls within their generational cohort. Which gets back to my original point: if Brad loves TJ as a lifelong friend, and if Toni accepts him, and Shannon likes him too, what is to not like? He is a bit of a rogue, true, but how many of us have friends who might be just a bit weird or are not perfect, including our friends who accept us as we are no matter what, but we love them, or they love us, anyway?

Toni already pays for her own apartment, and Brad pays (I presume!) rent to his parents for the house he shares with TJ. So if Brad and Toni move into an apartment, how would they be paying any more in rent together than they are paying separately now? This really doesn’t make any sense financially, and it makes even less sense in terms of what “real” people would do (newlyweds choose to move in with the groom’s best friend, and one who’s as obnoxious as TJ, at that?). It seems that Team Evans wants to keep TJ in the cast (why???), and there’s no reason for him to be there unless Brad keeps living with him. I hope they change their mind on this plot development, just as they did for their horrible idea of having Brad and Toni hold a 9/11 wedding “celebration”.

It’s not surprising that the strip makes no mention of Easter, at least as a religious holiday. The DeGroot family appears not to be church-goers, ever.

It really is nice not to see yet another ridiculous “holiday” mentioned in the comic… what we’re really celebrating is the equinox that has been covered up by yet another christian myth. At least try and pick on something believable, there is no such thing as life after death no matter how much you are scared of dying. Just because you buy into a particular superstition doesn’t mean that actual reality is suspended.

We all have our faiths and beliefs and can get along just fine. No testimonials needed. I take it on faith that each of us is passionate in what we believe and are trying to further humanity.

Many years ago, my four-year-old niece (now a grandmother five times over) asked who I was going to marry when I told her I was going to graduate and wouldn’t be going to school anymore. When I said I wasn’t getting married she threw a fit, saying I had to. After talking with her, my sister figured out that everyone my niece knew was either a little kid, in school, or married. By my niece’s experience/logic, since I wouldn’t be in school and wasn’t a little kid, I had to be married.

Uhhhh, my husband, who is among the most wonderful and moral people i have known in my numerous decades is an atheist. In fact, i know and have known some very marvelous atheists, and have known some others i can not stand. Because, like everyone else atheists are just people and every subset of people arrive in all forms and types.

BTW, the way it feels to be on the other side of proselytizing when a person is secure in her or his choices, is that it feels like a complete lack of respect, like being looked down upon, and like being treated like an unformed child. Basically, it feels thoroughly insulting.

The date of Easter was fixed by the Synod of Whiby—on the North Sea in Britain—in the year 664, to standardize its observance in the West. It was decided to make it the first Sunday after the first full moon following the Spring Equinox. Passover is also based on the lunar calendar— which sometimes coincides with the time of Easter in the West, and sometimes does not.

I second JimT8’s recommendation of the “Euthyphro”. It’s totally untrue that a person who doesn’t believe in any god can’t know right from wrong. Ethics, or morals if you prefer, can indeed be understood outside of one’s faith in a Higher Power.
Which has nothing at all to do with Luann. I posted many months ago that I thought Bwad and Toni should have had the conversation long ago about whether or not to adopt Shannon, or at least see how she and Fishbait feel about it.
To be fair, we don’t actually know that Fishbait is a lousy father. All we know for sure is that he has chosen a career path that is incredibly incompatible with being a parent. We don’t even know for sure if there’s a mother in the picture.
When Shannon was younger, she was much more needy and insecure, but she and Toni have matured quite a bit since Brad came on the scene.
Fishbait may, indeed, be a superb Daddy in the limited amount of time he has available. We just don’t know enough.
By the way, as we approach the end of March I wonder if I missed the request Mr. Grey was going to make “in February”? Technically, I guess he never specified which February.

I think that if Shannon is supposed to be six years old, some of the baby-talk, while cute, seems beneath her dignity and her intelligence. But her ideas of marital bliss are amusing, nonetheless. Just as well Toni and Brad tolerate it all….
Luanaphile over 8 years ago
The argument that Christians should convert pagans to spare them eternal suffering is as fallacious as it is old. It would imply that atheists should attack the beliefs of the faithful to spare them a life of delusion. Both are insulting as Sukie indicated.

Thanks, Dog!Luckily, we live in a nation where people can make their own religious choices by law, including not having religion, and if things go ideally that will be met with respect. My own beliefs are in one of the minor and non-Abrahamic panoply religions but i do not hold others choices against them and still hope to be treated with equivalent grace by some others.

I think we were better off as a society before we got so overwhelmingly PC about things like Easter. Your church’s calendar says that’s today? Well then, Happy Easter to you. You belong to a faith which places Easter on a different date? I’ll be happy to wish you greetings on the correct day if someone will remind me when that day comes. You’re Jewish? Or atheist? Or some other belief that excludes Easter? That’s fine too, if you’ll just tolerate my well-wishing the believers and understand that I’m not trying to offend you.
A month from now, I will be offering Joyous Passover greetings to those friends who I know to be Jewish. I doubt anyone thinks I am offending non-Jews when I do so.

We are all of us imperfect by definition of being just human, and all of us are hampered by biases which are common enough around us that at times we each — if being honest with ourselves — have to remind ourselves that some things said might be hurtful to others and perhaps unfair to them, and that can be by accident. Similarly we each have to realize that others are as imperfect as we are and forgive, especially if what was painful was not intended. So, yes, of course, i understand. Thank you for thinking about what i wrote. That is important to me.
