They could stay and slug it out.
They had no problem making The Blob, and the blob moved at near snail pace, People just stood there screaming while it ate them.
Somehow this worked when it was called The Blob!
I’m waiting and waiting and waiting for the epic battle scene in the “Giant Sloth vs. Giant Slug” movie.
If this was a real horror movie ,the wife is going to trip and take everyone else down also !

They could have used Weird Al’s “Slime Creatures from Outer Space” as the movie theme.
“The Monster That Challenged the World” (1957) was about giant mollusks [snails are classified as such] attacking a community in California. Scared the pudding out of me as a kid.
Uh, aren’t zombies usually even slower?
Oooh! I want to go see this slow action movie.
