The cavern is a very appropriate place for Mole to get married. He says they’ll be the first couple married there, and it does look beautiful, but I suspect that it’s more fitting for his wedding than it would be for most. Let’s hope that Tracy makes it to the cavern on time.
I most certainly don’t want to rain on Mole and Rose’s parade, but the lady’s speech balloon in that last panel just sounds so ominous, like tempting the Fates and then some!(BTW, is that Sam with his wife in the last panel beside the pastor?)
Awww. Got to love it. Setting the wedding in the newly opened train tunnel is a really nice touch.Mole and his family are great characters, and I’m happy to see Jerry King has been brought back as best man.“Dick Tracy” has one of the best supporting casts in all of comics (strips and books), and I really like how Mike and Joe’s used them.
Beautiful moment for the Mole . . .Really like the way Mike has shaped his life in this era, to the good side and as an admired regular.
From an enlargement - that’s clearly Sam and his wife, but the other figures in the background are unrecognizable to me. (Except of course, Chet as the Parson Thanks Maxine !)Certainly not Pat Patton anywhere there in the background in any panels at that magnification. It’s odd, but he doesn’t appear to be present (?)
Thanks Neil for the informative LINK on - “Getting Married in the Morning”. Unfortunately, couldn’t get any ‘sound’ on my try.
I’m curious on the “identity” of the teenage girl, appearing behind Tess’s left shoulder - in panel 5 (?)She seems to ‘reappear’ in 6, to the left of Parson Chet, but the hair style looks somewhat different as is the dress color?
Thanks Pequod for yet another ‘appreciated’ addition to the strips current events . . .
And Gweedo, it was good to see you take a little stab at verse, although the short stanza suggested it was . . . “Murray in a Hurry” !! ?
If you watch the movie the last part is sad as his best mates sombre lyrics sing of his not being with them as much but still willing to get him married.
Kudos to Mole and Sam for wearing classic tuxedos… not so much for Chief Patton who has gone the “hipster” route with one of those wretched 70s tux remakes. (In fairness, though, at least he hasn’t gone with the ruffled cuffs or shirt front.)
Tracy’s kindness to Mole made a big impression when I first read the Mole story in Celebrated Cases (1970). I like the way Team Tracy has made Mole a quality recurring character. Tracy looking in on Mole and gifting him a free family dinner at “Lowery’s” certificate was a great touch three years ago. The Mole has repeatedly been put to good use. The wide range of interesting recurring characters in the rebuilt Tracyville is very satisfying.
Thanks to Vista Bill, Gweedo (good show, sir), cpalmeresq, Neil Wick (nice overview of the “Spectacle in Cuba” cast!), Sydney Phillips, JerryH, Chris Sherlock, unclescrooge, Ray Toler and JPuzzleWhiz (nice) for the kind words. Very much appreciated!
I am wondering….how many of Dick Tracy’s former foes have really turned honest. I seem to remember that Stooge Viller reformed on his death bed, but told Tracy to tell his daughter that he was in the “Big House”.
Steve the Tramp also reformed and Tracy helped him to get started after his release from prison…in fact his reformation was the start of the storyline that eventually featured the Mole. I believe in the 50th anniversary story line Tracy also came across some of is former foes who also reformed…Pear Shape and Influence were among the group. Anyone know of any others??
I am assuming that the limo with the waiting chauffeur was rented by Jerry “The King” Lawlor to whisk away the newlyweds. Wouldn’t it be nice if it brought someone who could lend some “star presence” to Toad Hall. Maybe get some financial backing for them.
Thanks @ Willy007, Night-Gaunt49, capt mutt and Rightwingmoron.Great post, boboscar. The original Mole story is from 1941. I first read it in The Celebrated Cases of Dick Tracy (1970), a collection of some prime stories from 1931-1949. I recall that Little Face (1941) is now reformed, although his reformation (may have) occurred off-panel.
Gweedo submitted,I say old chap, there’s just no end to this praise and now YOURS!-——————————————————————-.Cheers, Gweedo! I have some good news! The local chapter of the Lost Poets Society at our cemetery voted you as #1. Do you know what this means? An all expense paid weekend at your choice of Castle Dracula or Castle Frankenstein!
Gweedo surprised,That is Beauty !!-———————————————————————-.… and with that, I’ll say, “Goodnight Gweedo!”. It’s been a long day for this old-timer! I’m a-hittin’ the old coffin now.

Sam and Marge for sure – but who’s the fellow to Sam’s left (our right)? Is that supposed to be Chief Patton in civilian attire?

That is Jerry “The King” Lawler dressed up as the Best Man, Ken. And that is Pastor Ray Tracy on the other side of the Catchem’s.
