You can’t fix stupid. Her parents should test the limits of her oblivion by saying, “Today is Mother’s Day. Next Sunday is Labor Day.”

Then again, it might be a set up for a huge surprise. I did that once as a kid. Okay, it probably isn’t, but then again they did have the chance to buy from some great museum stores recently…

Knowing the official day to honor your mother is not as important as honoring your mother.

Happy Mother’s day to all as the case may be. I have to say Nancy’s hot beverage, precariously balanced on the arm of the love seat, is making me nervous.

Even for a permanently self-absorbed neurotic like Luann, that was a poor performance.

You know what would have been very cute for two jokes in one? An unobserved (by Nancy and Frank) tiny box appearing on the couch back by Nancy’s left shoulder in the second panel which was not there in the first one. While what is shown now might be what one gets, it still is possible that Luann already got a small sized but very memorable gift for Mothers’ Day while in NYC, and wants to surprise her more. Been there, done that. The strip brought up a more elusive memory. Years ago there was a major calendar company that had an important date down wrong, but for the life of me i can not recall which. We had one of the calendars but it was one of the dates that gets mention on the news so all worked out okay.

Luann just told her Mom that she appreciates her THIS DAY. Mother’s and Father’s Day are arbitrary days designed to sell cards. The Mom should be glad her daughter notices how much she does for her and expresses her gratitude.

Um, could it be the fact that she’s surrounded by stuff that is indicating that today is Mother’s Day, and she’s saying she won’t forget it next Sunday?

I’d be tempted to think this paints a poor picture of Luann too, except we just saw a comic where she and Brad were caring for their sick parents. Am trying to learn to see the characters based on the long term portrayal and not just on the most recent strip. Though rarely I do think the characters are portrayed ‘out of character’. Like that time Tiffany was wearing tacky clothing with slogans on her chest and butt. One thing Tiffany definitely is, is fashion conscious. No way would she wear something as awful as that, am I right?

Happy Mother’s Day to Everyone! My take— we all had at least a biological mother and may also have had social, educational, spiritual mothers. Instead of hoping our kids will honor us, let’s make today and Father’s Day times for US to honor other people!

Back to yesterday: True, Les is going to try to steal money. He may or may not succeed. But I bet TJ already foresees a problem and uses some of his wiles to tape the register area or mark the bills. Pru will give life guidance. Mr. Gray will contribute a kick in the pants.

Mothers’ Day Redux: Above, I said we all can and should celebrate the mothers in our lives. But just read “Ms. Manners”, and she said we should limit our greetings to only the people we know to be mothers. What do you think?

Hey, what do you have to bellyache about when you already know from repeated past experiences that using a strongly exaggerated negative phrase will get you a lot of attention from them? If attention from them is not your goal, then why repeat the same action and expect a different outcome?

Yes, and since we are only human all that we can ultimately be in at least some ways is good enough. There are some aspects of maturity that require coming to grips with the fact that our parents are as fallible as we, and have their own weaknesses, mistakes, pressures in life, limitations, and needs just to survive emotionally just like we do.

Luann can be a bit discouraging at times. But look at it this way: Nancy: you’ll get to celebrate Mother’s Day twice (just be sure that Luann makes the second time around [yeah, that alludes to her being your second child, too] worthwhile)….

I think Miss Manners is behind the times. And old-fashioned

Today my wife was wished a Happy Mothers Day a few times, and each time she felt she had to mention to the person she isn’t a mother. It was awkward, and I understand Miss Manners’ take on it.
