No, when the doctor uses a word balloon, it’s filled with heal-ium and cure-ium.When the speaker disappears, his balloon is filled with argon.When a politician speaks, the balloon is made of bore-on.

I suspect the odd quality of the Nancy surrogate here is supposed to be what a comic strip character brought to life in Lio’s reality would look like. Like a copy of a copy of an original.

Wow! What an assortment of word-balloons, and at a low, low price, too!How can Nancy resist?

Just keep those balloons away from her hair.

A few more strips to go to see if Lio makes a guest appearance in “Nancy” as the weird mute kid.

The first time I saw Nancy was in the lackluster 1970s Filmation animated Archies cartoon. They were too cheap to add the spikes to Nancy’s hair, so that was probably the worst Nancy ever.

Maybe it would have been funnier for Lio to sell word balloons to Henry.

Nancy! I read her as a child…I wonder if she was in reruns then….

The first one she was in was named Archie’s TV Funnies that ran on CBS-TV and hosted by The Archies (of course) and The Fabulous Funnies than ran on NBC-TV was hosted by Foozy, Alley Oop’s rhyming pal.

If that were the worst-drawn Nancy, we wouldn’t recognize her without prompting.

Now I’m wondering if Nancy’s BFF Sluggo is still around. Maybe he had to change his name to something more 21st century PC.

I recognized Nancy, of course, but what’s the connection with Lio and the word Balloons? Can someone tell me?

Either Mark Tatulli had a very hard time drawing Nancy, or he did it on purpose. But that aside, Lio is a silent strip, but I think our boy is trying to speak. What better way than to create his own balloons?

The comic hybrids are always fun.
