“Shaming into enlightenment.” “Let’s agree to what I decide.”

Is that 88 in the middle panel?

I would say nothing changed, but it’s a lie. They got worse, and more hysterical.

“Can’t say this, can’t say that.” “Do what I say, or you’re a Nationalsozialistische.”

    Intercourse off.

at my wedding, the flower girl was my wife’s god daughter, the child of her college room mate and she happened to be black. on our honey moon we went to england to introduce my new wife to my family. We took out a copy of the wedding picture and my 80+ year old grand mother looked at it and declared “Oh! she’s a little colored girl!” we both just cringed.

If you think that is bad, fast forward to 2022 when you could get into all kinds of trouble for using the wrong pronoun for referring to someone. Of course I think the whole “Furry” thing was just a joke to drive the rednecks (am I allowed to say that?) crazy. . . . Mission Accomplished.

The problem with euphemisms is that they wear out and take on the same connotation as the word they were intended to sanitize. It’s like taking a water-soaked sponge out of a bucket of water and replacing it with a brand new one. The water always wins.

Berke had a Sunday strip on offensive stuff. Still resonates today.

Reminds me of something I encountered in the 70’s. The word human contained the work MAN, so in order to find an acceptable name that included both genders, it’s was suggested that we use the term person. My father postulated that that wasn’t acceptable because the word SON, which is clearly masculine. The term ONE resonated across all genders. He suggested that the reference could be huperone. That removed the masculine moniker from the first two words and added the term ONE to cover all. LOL!

For the same reason you’d say “blonde haired girl” or “Red headed girl”. Variations in color are one of the way we identify people.
