ess than a minute agoHaving just had to pay for an obituary a few weeks ago, yes, it’s not cheap. And if you want more than just the most basic information, you pay extra. But at a time like that, who feels like arguing?By the way, does anybody else think that Pastis uses himself way too much as a character in this strip?

Recently, I learned that ID thieves are using obits to do genealogy sites in order to gain access their personal info. My best friend’s widow has had to fight credit card fraud because of it. Boy, thieves sure do mean things.

Petaluma?

We just found out the hard way that newspapers charge you not hundreds but almost $1000 for an obituary for my father with a picture. We opted for a small ‘death notice’ that was 1 line long and looked like he was some homeless transient. I can’t believe how the ‘death’ industry gouges people who are grieving!!! The airlines, the funeral parlours, the floral shops! ALL of them take advantage of people who have lost loved ones.

Hey, wait a sec… Jay Glibenski was born the same year as me (1952). I’m no where near ready to have an obituary published, whether in the comics or elsewhere (though there is some appeal to perhaps having it placed in the comics). I think the various dog names (Bunk, Lester, McNulty, and Stringer Bell) also show some promise of future use, somewhere (but probably not by me). I particularly like “Stringer Bell”.
