It can do something that a lot of “smart” phones have trouble doing — make a call.

My flip phone was SO much easier to use than my smart phone. I miss it.

IF I ever break down and get a cell phone, it will be the simplest I can find: a dumb phone, not a pocket computer that allegedly can also make phone calls….

Maybe ‘smart’ is an industry code word for ‘not always useful’.

I still have a flip phone. I don’t want a phone smarter than me. I’ll hold out as long as I can, even if I have to get a Hello Kitty dumb phone.

When I was a youngster, you had to pay extra for a “long distance” phone call…and you had to dial a “1” first. And yes, the phone actually had a “dial”.

So much is lost with mobile phones. No slamming the phone down when mad. No longer can the villian sneek up behind and choke someone with the cord or the gangster beating someone with the receiver. And the best thing about camping was no one could call you for the whole week-end.

I don’t miss the old dial phones where you would get halfway through the number and then have to begin again because you could not quite rotate the heavy sticky dial far enough using your weaker fingers.

I still think we are only a few short years away before cell phone providers start advertising that there your new smartphone can be used to actually speak to another human being…

Can it make a phone call at my house? If so, it’s superior to any cell phone.

I’m retired from Ma Bell & I rarely use a landline anymore. The only times you need a wired landline is usually in large businesses. Most residences really have no need for a landline unless they don’t like talking & texting I suppose

Good Lord! Iʻm 78. I canʻt wait for the new iPhone 7!! Whatʻs wrong with you guys? You donʻt have to know HOW to fly the 747. Just buy a ticket!

Breathed is right—you need a landline to phone in the results of a heart monitor every night to the cardiologist. Wore one for a week at the ripe old age of 31.

Not quite as memorable or heartwarming as Opus’ rejection of e-books on May 8, 2005. Wanna know why I have a I-Phone and no landline now? Because me and my mother are on my brother-in-law’s family plan and we don’t have to pay a cent. Thanks Don! I don’t hate landlines, it’s just that we’ve found a more economical way to communicate.
