Neil Wick said late yesterday, “Thanks for the link to the story about the beehive hairstyle creator. I went through the photo gallery on that page and none of them quite match Notta’s style. She is unique.”I agree, Notta is definitely unique. Bold and sassy, too. Joe Staton has done a great job with her, and since her hairstyle is featured prominently in today’s strip, I thought it would be fun to provide some flashback scenes from her original story in order to compare Staton and Gould’s versions of the beehive. (Also seems fitting since, as you mentioned, the original creator of the beehive style died last Friday.) I notice with Gould, Notta’s rising “crown” of hair was somewhat taller and more tapered, especially at the beginning of her story. Notta’s earrings were different, too, in that with Gould they dangled lower (longer chains) and had larger ear studs.

Blaze is looking very guilty in the last panel, but there’s no way Notta is going to just hand over her brother.

Uhoh, Blaze has stepped in it now! Notta’s look in the last panel is great. It’s probably the last time we’ll see her with anything resembing a calm face. Girl fight coming up! I hope no one gets shot!

D’oh! Notta’s late realization that Blaze dropped a dime on her suggests she is not as bright as she sometimes appears to be.. On the other hand, Blaze is not handling this crux all that well, either. Tracy and Lizz has better force their entry ASAP or someone inside is likely to get hurt (or worse)!

Blaze could have just done what Notta told her to and when outside just tell Tracy what’s up. Did Blaze think she had to tangle with Tracy just because Notta told her to?

Things are getting Hot!!

It’s hard to tell, but is this Joe Staton’s inks today? I think when the strips are in b&w, it’s easier to tell who is behind the art that day.

Nevermind. It is Joe’s inks again today. I looked back at Monday’s strip from two weeks ago, and can tell the difference.

I think if Blaze is shot it would be cool to have one of those tear-jerking, melodramatic hospital bedside scenes like Gould used so effectively.

I agree that the comment moderator probably doesn’t have any influence on the colorist.
