If raising her niece is difficult, it must’ve been difficult for Toni to raise brother Jonah.

Typical kid. Wave something shiny in front of her face and maybe she’ll stop for a second.

The show starts in an hour and Shannon is only now taking a bath and getting ready, while Toni apparently waited until now to eat dinner?

You don’t eat before a performance, especially if you’re going to sing. You eat after. I can’t count how many “before the show” dinners I missed during my lifetime because I wanted my voice to sound good.

I see such a bout of stage fright coming, they’ll have to call Ghostbusters.

You don’t want to be stuffed when you’re dancing, either. But she appears to be singing now. Even if that wasn’t the original plan, I imagine she will sing anyway, the way she’s feeling and acting.

They are so obviously going to adopt her!

Shannon obviously has show biz in her blood. However as opposed to her dad, Shannon might have talent.

Ah, Gromit. A LOT can happen in the next year. Maybe Jonah, 1) Abandoned the kid and skips to parts unknown like Shannon’s ‘mom.’ 2) Maybe Brad and Toni don’t want to adopt Shannon. Who Knows? Only Team Evans….,

Toni seldom really seems to enjoy caring for Shannon, does she?

The big letdown is yet to come. I’ll bet dad doesn’t show for her skit. That will be a real shame.

Does everyone realize how much we love this comic strip. When it’s all said and done, this is an interesting and entertaining comic.

7Interesting on several levels today, but poses a lot of questions as well:1) I am wondering what the actual timeline is here within this arc? To me, it has read like all of the arc featuring Shannon has occurred within one day. But, I am not sure if that is the case:a) The “one day” aspect seems to be unlikely because Shannon says there is only an hour before the show… and yet she is home with Shannon. It seems unlikely she would have taken Shannon home, bathed and fed her in that short turn-around time. b) The “one day” idea also seems to be unlikely because Shannon’s pre-bath clothing is different from what it was on Saturday. That could be an illustrator’s artifact/error, or it could signify this is a different day than when Shannon was first at The Fuse. c) Toni being in different clothing… could simply be she changed clothes when she got home on the same day, OR it could be clothing she put on the next day. So, Toni’s clothing is not really guiding the timeline in either direction.2) Shannon is not particularly adept at rinsing the soap off after a bath. She could potentially be at risk for skin irritation and dermatological issues from the soap residue. This could put a damper on her performance and is worrisome. (This is said tongue-in-cheek, of course, as the soap was present for modesty needs in the drawing.). 3) However, with the amount of “greenish” appearing food on Toni’s plate, the food appears to me more like dinner food than breakfast. This suggests that it MAY BE the same day as last week’s comics. IF is now the next day as is suggested by the things I described in #1 above, it is interesting that apparently Jonah was out all night at his “gig” wherever that was…. which I thought was some play call-back. IF it is the same day as last week’s comics, then it is suggesting to me that the Follies are being planned for a fairly late night showcase. If the Follies are late night…. this in turn could explain why all of the other performers where already in costume earlier last week…. they were coming on the day of the show and apparently are just sitting around until the time for the show arrives.

I am wondering if the entire Toni and Degroot clan will get up to help Shannon by singing, and perhaps along the way everyone else will join in, perhaps w Jonah walking in close to the last minute and coming to a realization (or not).

I missed the name of the person who listed all the ponderables about today’s strip. My wife tends to do the same thing: overthink things. heh heh. Me, I just go with the flow.

Love the excitement! But who will provide the music if Dad doesn’t show up to play? Will Toni, Pru, Lu form a trio?

There is no indication that Shannon’s dad won’t show up to perform with her. He may get there at the last moment. He is making a living with acting so there is no reason to think he is a bad actor.

Note that most police are wonderful public servants. They themselves are ultimately being placed in danger by a small minority of abusive officers, as is the public.

Shannon is a bit of a handful. But, then, she has been so, for as long as we have known her.I sympathize with Toni and Brad, if they really do end up adopting her….

Yes, siblings as surrogate parents, whether the parents are alive or not, are still seen by the younger sibs who are close enough in age or aged beyond a certain point as not being parents, so the very dynamic itself has intrinsic pitfalls.

It’s nice to see a little kid be so focused on something. I think .. or at least hope… that the person who will provide the musical accompaniment should Jonah not show up will be Luann and her singing. Her act with Bernice is not nearly as compelling.

Something like two years ago everybody saw Shannon’s Dad in a play. They all agreed he sucked. However – being relatively good looking, he continues to show up to casting calls.

Yes, but at least knowing those pitfalls are there might help some people avoid some guilt they should not bear, yet do until they finally realize better, and might allow some sibs to have more equality in adult relationships later.

I hope that when Shannon performs her dance routine at the Fuse she doesn’t shout out the moves like she does in practice…. because she is so intent on getting it right. Maybe someone needs to point out that she should try to just think them to herself.

All the discussion of nudity in comics puts me in mind of the time a famous cartoonist appeared on the Red Skelton TV show. “Nice to meet you, Mr. Skelton. I’m Al Capp.” Red says, “How do you do, Mr. Capp. And what do you do for a living?” He answers, “I do a comic strip.” Skelton: “Well, I enjoy a good laugh. Go ahead and undress.”
